Is it ok to just give her a gift card?

It’s going to be boiling hot this summer, for Christmas and my bestie lives in a bad area of town that’s hard to get to, where it’s likely that her food platter and chocolates would go off on the way there. I also would rather not be hanging around there. Is it okay with this in mind, to give her $50-$70 on a gift card to pick her own stuff for Christmas?

She likes to spend Christmas with her own family, certain relatives have health issues and can’t travel that far and my parents would just want it to be the three of us

Maybe instead of a gift card for $70 or whatever, if she lives in such a shit hole that you consider it beneath you to even subject yourself to the smell of the air, you could get her a couple of nights in the Meriton or something. There or you could go even more fancy like the Park Hyat or the Shangri-La?

By the way, I forgot to mention the Meriton isn’t that expensive. I was there a couple of weeks ago at 187 per night. Although I use hotels a lot and have all the maximum loyalty bonuses so I might’ve gotten it a bit cheaper.

Quest is also ok but it doesn’t have a pool, just a gym. They’re all different prices depending on the suburb. Like you, I usually like to stay somewhere which is at least north of the harbour to stay away from the core of the riff raff.

Ohhh now I see. Sorry, I misinterpreted. You’re right that I’m a lot better off than she is. I consider where she lives a shit hole and I would rather not hang out there. Maybe I do find it a bit beneath me. I can’t afford really fancy gifts, (like that); as it’s my family’s wealth, not mine. But since you were sincere in that suggestion, if I could afford it, it’d be a thoughtful gift. Thanks 🥰
