Is anyone here a Walmart delivery driver?

They want us to tip for grocery delivery. They recommend 18%. I figured out that if I had tipped 18% since I've used this service, I would have paid an additional $1,740 for my groceries. Even at 10%, which they "discourage," I would have paid an additional $966.

Groceries are very expensive right now as it is. Plus, I pay a mandatory $100 just to use the delivery service. They also have a $40 fee if you don't want to tip the drivers. What? Who exactly is tipping the drivers in this scenario? $40 a year gets you out of tipping hundreds of dollars? How?

What do you think about this from the driver or the customer side? Can you afford to add this much to your grocery bills?

“Can you afford to add this much to your grocery bills?” Then get it yourself. That tip pays for THEIR groceries. You’re really gonna try to starve someone despite them doing you a favor? That’s a dick move.


Look, speaking as someone that works for tips, NOBODY likes the tipping industry. However, it’s still an opportunity to make money in a job market where you can have all the skills, all the titles, all the achievements necessary to qualify for a really good job and still only get interviewed for entry-level positions by McDonald’s and Walmart because nobody else is bothering with your resume. These people don’t have a lot of choices right now, and you want to shit on them because the service they provide you is too expensive? That’s like saying your doctor is shit despite providing a perfect organ transplant and refusing to pay for it.


If you don’t like tipping, get your own groceries. You’re already buying them at jacked up prices without the tip because that’s their “convenience” inflation for the company that already makes billions every year. Take the time to compare the in-store versus online prices and you’ll see I’m right. I absolutely hate when people like you complain like it’s somehow their fault they get paid in tips, as if that’s something they can control, as if it’s something they haven’t ALREADY TRIED to control.

My boyfriend drives gigapps occasionally and the way it works is that they get a very small "fare" and the main thing is the tip. If he sees a ride with $2 fare and no tip he doesn't do it because basically the $2 pays the gas and he's just wasting his time.

If you want to do anything else you can always use the pick up feature and drive to the store. I don't know if 18% or whatever but I'd probably recommend like a $5 tip or so cuz otherwise you might never get your stuff.

I know around Christmas people didn't get their stuff cuz the driver could pick and choose so they took the high paying ones ofc

I work for ASDA in UK, we are not allowed to accept tips of any kind, not even drivers, we can be instantly dismissed for gross misconduct if we do,,,

So what this means is if the customer attempts to tip, the driver may well not turn up at all to avoid the situation in future, or the customer's account will be cancelled,,,

18% is extortinate imho, but that's my perspective from UK where we tend to not tip very much, if at all,,,
