It is an issue if, as women do, you have to pay the Pink Tax, aka, more money for the same products, just because a product is pink or is "made for women."

Honestly? I suspect the Girly tool kit and the Girly workout gloves are seen as encouraging and even empowering by many ladies, or mothers of girls: "Yes, you CAN swing a hammer or do a punching bag workout and still be feminine!"

@Curmudgeon Um, no. A mother or father can encourage their daughter to do sports without this... well, good thing there's a pink helmet, or a pink bat for you. You can just empower them through words and through example. Wearing blue shoes does not make a guy better at basketball or want to play if he isn't into it. It just means he's wearing blue.

However, if I learned anything in marketing class at MBA school, it is that psychological selling does work. In other words, the business is not instigating this; it is simply following a pattern.

A woman who has manicured her nails usually isn't all too keen on damaging them by whacking other kinds of nails with a hammer. It is part of the established gender roles. When a mother tries to encourage her daughter to do something outside the gender role, the color shouldn't matter, otherwise she also encourages the gender role bias.
