Another thing you need to understand about people is that they'll try to denigrate you on everything when it comes to this. They'll call you a bitch for having pepper spray. I've seen people say that you're a pussy if you carry a gun. It seems that some of them would only be happy if you let a criminal do whatever they want to you or have the fighting skills of mma champion. You need to be trained

Handguns are useless if you aren't trained, both mentally and physically.
Years back there was a shooting at a mall. Two bystanders were armed, and shot back. They missed completely. The sociopath shot both of them. They're alive, but not at full capacity.

Don't simply walk around with a gun or any weapon for that matter like a wanna-bee redneck.

Also, if you actually wound, kill, or beat the s**** out of someone for self-defense, there's a chance the prosecutor will make it his mission in life to disqualify your self-defense case.

I used to carry pepper spray (as per my mother's request) when there was a rapist on my campus but I don't anymore. I'll be 21 soon and I'm getting my license to carry though and then I'll be able to carry a gun (whether or not I will is a different question).

Okay a bit off topic, but is it really legal to carry a gun around, in the states? I thought it was just legal to have them. Is shooting and killing someone legal too? If its self defense of course.

You have to have a permit aka a license to carry and even then, you're not allowed to carry it in certain areas. No, it is not legal to kill someone even in self defense. You still go to trial, still have the potential to go to jail, and still have to go through the criminal court proceedings. And it will go on your record. It is frowned upon to kill someone no matter what your reasoning is. BUT self defense is a viable argument in trial and can get you acquitted. It's not legal, but if you can prove you had no other choice, it's viable.

Unless you're in Florida if you have a carry permit and only covers your handgun not your non-lethal self-defense devices bear that in mind

No. Staying alive via pepper spray is smarter than:
1) Not having pepper spray and dying/getting mugged/hurt as a result
2) Having a handgun and killing someone accidentally... or defending yourself as you should but getting sacked with legal problems

I've also heard many people say many stupid things. Pepper spray is an equipment as pre-caution against future physical harassment. What is more important, some asshole questioning your masculinity, or your life? I wouldn't want to associate myself with these people.

If you are in a situation where you need to defend yourself, it's not important at all to "fight fair," or "look manly." If you need to defend yourself, you want to maximize your ability to do so in any situation you are in.

If your assailant was interested in a fair fight, he'd challenge you to an officiated boxing match. If he didn't do that, to hell with fair and manly, fight to win.

It is only considered not manly because of norms, Girl usually carry it which in turn makes it more of a feminine product.
There are TONS of products ''designed'' for everybody but usually that product will sell more often to guys or girls.

-Getting jumped by multiple people.
-Other person has weapon.

It can be tricky in the States, though. In Wisconsin, it is very restricted. Yes, you can have it, but only up to a certain strength. Odds are, if you have a can of it from another state, it is too strong, and illegal.
