Why do professors allow students to leave early from class in college?

I have noticed that some students leave class early without telling the professor and the professor doesn't care and you weren't allowed to leave 5 minutes early in high school. Why are you allowed to leave early in college but not in high school?

college is very different from high school. you are paying a lot of money for your class time. If you choose to leave early or even not show up at all, that's on you.

Also, at a college, people often schedule back-to-back classes that may even be across campus. The 10 minutes or so between classes aren't enough to make the trek and get a good seat, so some students leave their previous class early. The professors are usually quite used to it.

Of course. Some of them might call you out as you leave and try to embarrass you, but they cannot tell you to stay. As an adult whose paying for an education, you have every right to come and go as you please.

Although some do grade for attendance and participation so you'd have to consider the consequences in such a class if you choose to leave.

It actually depends on the professor and even the college. Some professors doesn't allow that. Most of my college professors doesn't allow that, especially when i was in my lower years but when i was in my 3rd and final year and even in grad school some of the professors were not that that strict anymore. I say, high school teachers are very much strict compared to college teachers. Lol

You're paying to be in class so you should be able to leave whenever you want

You are forced to be in high school. You are not forced to go to college.

Because the student is paying for the class and the professor is still getting paid. Though with most classes if someone just gets up and leaves a little before it's time then most professors I'd imagine would get upset, because that's just rude.

because we are all adults and we take responsibility for our own actions. some professors are total dicks though and will drop you if you miss class.

Because we aren't in high school where your basically in prison. Besides, your an adult and adults can make adult decisions.

because in college they're more loose you know. and the students are basically adults there

College is a more independent environment. You can come and go whenever you want. But the consequences are on you.

Because it is not high school and if you want to sacrifice your studies it should be your choice.
