I got pulled over by a cop for having my high beams on tonight?

I was passing by a cop with my high beams on, and he pulled me over.

He never physically wrote me a ticket, all he said was '' Are your high beams on?'' I told him yes, he told me to turn them off and I did.

Iv'e never been pulled over before, so I don't know I'm just curious maybe he wrote my license plate down or something sneaky and is going to bill me?

He seemed nice enough though.

My girlfriends been billed for running passed toll meter before so that got me thinking.

What's funny is that he was at a stop sign... just sitting there.. I think he had someone else pulled over but not sure. I waited about 10 seconds.. he wasn't going so I just went. I thought he ''' Baited'' me initially.

Nah, you're alright. If he didn't write you a ticket on the spot, then you're not going to be getting one. The only reason he pulled you over in the first place is because you were hazardous to other drivers.

Having a vehicle driving towards you with it's high beams on can temporarily impair your vision, leading to a dangerous situation. The officer just wanted to make sure you weren't causing an unsafe condition for other drivers, that's all.

I saw you mention in another response that you haven't got a way to tell if your high beams are on? Every vehicle I can think of has some sort of an indicator on the dashboard informing you when they're on.

It's the blue indicator between the gauges. If you see that symbol, it means your high beams are on.

Nah, you're OK. He just pulled you over to let you know about the lights, and check you out. For one thing drunk drivers forget to turn on their lights, or leave their high beams on.

He almost for sure wrote down your license plate number though. Cops usually do that first thing for their own safety. They want to know who the heck they are pulling over.

Probably reminding you to be courteous to oncoming traffic. Many people driving under the influence don't dip their lights for others, so there was probable cause for a traffic stop.

The other thing which likely just got you a warning versus a citation is that it sounds like you were courteous and took ownership for your actions. (I have a State Trooper in the family, so I hear about things like this. Not to mention the trouble I'm in if they ever pull me over!!)

You can use high beams when driving on a dark road, you just have to turn them off when a motorist is approaching you from the other direction. Then once they pass you can turn them on again.

I don't remember turning them on. Thanks I didn't know that about the lights. So, I'm likely in the clear right? No ticket if he didn't write me one?

Okay good... that takes a lot off my mind. Iv'e been having some problems with my lights, I hope I can turn the high beams off because I check now and I can't tell much of a difference.

Maybe... That cop is homosexual, and he wanted to see your looks? Nevermind, I'm just talking non-sense again... Maybe he just wanted to make the road safe. Or maybe the high beams irritated him. :\
