I Have a lamp from Ikea, I removed the uv-blocking glass to install a new bulb (above) and I was wondering, can you tan your skin from this sort of lighting with the UV-blocking glass removed?

It's very much possible to get a tan or a sunburn from continuous exposure to an unfiltered halogen light. Is it it a good idea to try to get a tan from a halogen lamp? Not at all.

Yea it can tan you! Depending on the wattage of the lamp and as long as the glass filter is off. You dumb asses trying to prove this guy wrong! Why the hell do you thing they put a filter on there? The filter shields the uv output unless its off, duh. So quit trying to prove this guy wrong! Not to mention he is a chemistry major! So bug off!

no halogen bulbs are heat . they are not uv. they have high watts this gives them there heat.

The amount of applied electrical energy doesn't determine heat. The resistance and specific heat capacity of the conducting material is what determines heat. When tungsten filament is exposed to enough current it exhibits a small amount of ultraviolet radiation.

@quinner23x I seriously think you're thinking of lizard lights or the ones we use to heat small bathrooms, they're designed for releasing more infrared than UVA or UVB. But look at some of the lizard lights that are for the purpose of emitting UVA and UVB and not just heat for the lizards health, guess what they are... halogen my dude... specifically for UV light.

The bigger man is the one that can admit when they're wrong.
