Nursing is one of the most common in-demand positions available in the healthcare industry and medical field. I doubt it's ever actually looked down because it requires great amount of patience, empathy, sympathy for people that are sick or even dying sometimes. And you would be taking care of them, checking on them until the doctor successfully diagnosed what their problems are and then fix them if possible.
it requires lots of patience, communication and you could also work very long hours depending on the volume of patients at the hospital.

Nursing is a very demanding field, and can pay quite well, and you don't need a higher education to enter it (for the most part). But it requires a SHITLOAD of classwork, study, clinical courses, etc. It's also a very thankless job. Nurses are the ones who truly run hospitals.
If you can't handle body fluids, sick people, injured people, or asshole family members... it's not right for you.
I heard nurses look down on social workers. They can be struck up, but yeah doctors can take nurses for granted.
No. Being a nurse is a great thing. I'd never be able to do anything they do. Very admirable.
