My boyfriend got me a puppy for my birthday and now I feel bad?

i turned 21 on the 20th of July and my boyfriend got me a 1.5 month old black lab puppy as a gift. i'm extremely grateful about it but i feel kinda bad that he spent a ton of money on such a gift like this for me. when i asked how much it was he said the puppy was $300, and the other things (kennel, dog toys, dog bed, etc) came to about $700 with taxes. i told and showed him I really really appreciate this gift a ton. the one thing that's bothering me is that he spent about a grand of money on me

i don't want to feel bad about it at all, but something is just making me feel like he spoiled me. how can i get over this?

by the way, I've always been like this my whole life; not liking when people buy me things because then i feel like I'm using their money

I'm assuming that the boyfriend and you live together, so in fairness, a dog is a gift for both of you. He must have also wanted a dog or he'd never have gotten it, but there's a good chance the breed was picked because you'd expressed an interest before.

If you feel like a dog is too expensive a gift, just get him something equally valuable either money-wise or affection-wise for his birthday in return.

his birthday was actually last month and it isn't even comparable to the cost that he spent on me

at 21 that's a lot of money to spend on a gift. so he did spoil you.

What you need to remember when you start to feel like you using their money is that you aren't telling them or asking them to buy you these things.
They decided on their own that they wanted to spend money on you.
You shouldn't feel guilty for someone else's choice

i know... i just can't help but feel as if i basically "took their money even though i didn't. but maybe it's because i grew up in a low wealth family that if somebody spends the slightest bit of money on me, i feel as if it's too much

that might be something you want to talk to your boyfriend about.
tell him you love the gift and it's amazing. you appreciate him for doing something like that but that you feel uncomfortable receive such expensive gifts. and you would prefer he not spend that kind of money on you as you don't need expensive things to be happy or to know how he feels about you.

You may just have to get used to it though. :) some guys just like to spoil their women like that.
and if he can afford it I wouldn't worry.

from this I can see ur boyfriend spends his money well and u r a person who like to be conservative so u should not be bothered by it and u should be happy with It
