Would Bohemian Rhapsody still be a classic without Wayne’s World?

[AviatorTom]

There's a classic scene in the movie Wayne's World where Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody plays.

Bohemian Rhapsody has become a Classic Rock song, some claiming it's the number one rock song of all time.

But would the song have become such a huge Classic, easily recognized by millions, if it hadn't appeared in Wayne's World?

Bohemian Rhapsody was already a classic long before Wayne’s World 🎤

It hit number 1 in the UK in 1975, had a groundbreaking music video, and Queen were massive globally. Wayne’s World gave it a second life in the US charts and made it iconic for a new generation, but it didn’t create its “classic” status, it just boosted and refreshed it 🌟

Everyone know BR not everyone is familiar with WW. I'm sure the film was popular in the olden days but it's largely been forgotten, I doubt most people can remember the plot. But BR still gets played on the radio quite a bit.

[AviatorTom]

@purplepoppy I'm not sure WW actually had a plot, which is what made it entertaining, kind of a long Seinfeld episode

[purplepoppy]

Of course BR is a welsh song. Recorded at Rockfield, an old pig farm that's long served as a getaway for musicians looking for isolation to get stoned, drunk, and seek inspiration in the local mushrooms. The original sounds better "Mama, lladdais i ddyn..."

[Monoc]

Everyone knows we will rock you and we are the champions, BR is not as known to younger generations

[FunkyMonkee]

Absolutely!! I've never seen "Wayne's World".
Although, there's a song at the start of side 2 that I think is MUCH better!! "The Prophet"!!

[Nikki1989]

I have never really seen the appeal of that song. I like it, but it still wouldn't make my top 20 list of best Queen songs.

[Nikki1989]

And I have never seen that movie.

[OlderAndWiser]

It's a great song that stands on its own. Wayne's World was a boost but it was already a timeless hit.

[NathanDavis]

I always knew Queen... didn't really know this movie existed till, way later, lol

[katiesmuff]

I'm sure it would as Wayne's world isn't what made it a classic

[exitseven]

Yes, I don't even remember the song in Wayne's World.

[Monoc]

Yeah, at some point it would have either been used by another movie or somewhere else, same thing would have happened.

It already was a massive hit in the 70s, by Queen, nothing would stop it for being considered a classic

[Red2003]

Yes cause radio play plus parents etc. I mean Queen my moms favorite band.

[Anonymous]

It was a classic long before that.

[Cidknee]
