What does diversity mean to you?
My mom is 50% Dominican, 25% Spanish and 25% Haitian.
My dad is 50% Indian and 50% Pakistani.
I was born in the Dominican Republic and grew up in The Netherlands (I have the Dutch nationality).
Diversity for me mean being part of a lot of different cultures and customs. But actually don't belong to either of them.
That is really interesting!
Yeah, feels bad
Different races different colors different backgrounds different personalities different Heritage different culture different religious beliefs different views on life different political beliefs different spirituality
it is beautiful :))))
having different groups of people
different cultures
religions
races
:)
Thank you for your response! :)
you welcome sweetie :)
True diversity is like a garden full of flowers. You have roses, you have tulips, and many others. And they stay SEPARATE. The melting pot concept if fucking retarded. If all of the races and cultures mixed together, you would not have diversity. You'd have a brainless grey goo.
The only form of diversity that actually matters is Diversity of Thought.
Hmmm, interesting idea... care to elaborate at all?
When people focus too much on identity diversity, such as race, ethnic groups, religion, political views, gender, class, or whatever, they tend to segregate and catagorize into groups. This leads to "group think", often times demonizing one group over another.
Diversity of Thought on the other hand asks of all these diverse groups, ok based on who you are as an individual and your influences, what are your ideas? What do you bring to the table?
It values the individual over the group, and judges them on their merit and the content of their character rather than what group or groups they belong to.
I would like to add the assumption that all people who look alike think alike is racist. I have a lot of black friends who are politically conservative, it pisses them off to no end that people just assume they are Democrats based on their skin color.
@leifleoden excellent point, and that's a very good example of why we need to elevate the importance of Thought Diversity over any other form.
I really don't care if someone is a gay transgendered feminist muslim nazi or whatever.
I want to know what YOU as an individual bring to the table, and we can go from there agreeing or debating solutions.
That'd be great, sadly too many people think they have a right to not be offended. Like you can just change the channel or put on a different YouTube video.
@vjedi, I really like your response—it is quite unusual and very thought provoking :)

Different. Heterogeneity. Different races, different faiths, different opinions, different beliefs in many things. Why be cookie cutter when you can be an individual?
I love the way you put that :)
It means having a mixture of ideas and life experiences. Usually that means that there is a mix of different races, ethnicities, sexual orientations, genders, etc but doesn't have to. Depends on the context.
Doritos, Cheetos, pork rinds, pretzels, potatoe chips, funyons, tortilla chips, bugles, fritos, pringles..
XD chip diversity? Lol
I can only speak about diversity from a business perspective. Like most companies try to diversify themselves by opening subsidiaries and expanding into different markets and industries.
Diversity is a ploy designed to reduce my chances as far as work opportunities go, or it removes my demographic from certain facets of art & culture. It means disproportionately showing off how much you love trans, gay, and racial monorities by flaunting them wherever you can. It also means that my opinion does not carry weight because it lacks the pull of being 'diverse'.
Diversity is being immersed in different cultures with different races, genders, sexualities, beliefs and accepting and acknowledging the differences.
Something that qualifies to have one of those diverging graphs. I forget what they're called. The ones with a single box and then separates into multiple paths.
Letting i steam locomotives have the same rights as them newfangled electric trains
Different people working together to better the their lives collectively maybe?
Depends on the context
Hmmmm... just in general, what do you think of when you contemplate diversity?
Embracing other cultures and learning each other‘s differences
means having a variety of different people together in one place, from different ethnic backgrounds.
Multiple cultures living in harmony.
It doesn't work in Sweden
Oh? Hmmm... just a lot of people of similar descent?
Nothing. We haven't learned that word in school.
many different things of the same type
That god does not like monotony
The decimation of Europe
Hmmm... Not quite sure I understand... care to elaborate?
Just look at Sweden and Germany
It means a bunch of blacks beating some white guy.
