dunno, i'm just wondering why people think Mandarin have these 'ch' sound. As in ching chong when clearly there's none if you listen to it. There is 'sh' sounds, not 'ch'
They think of Cantonese
Now that I've thought about it, you're right! But those who say ching chong, have never been around Chinese people, so they don't really know what it sounds like. They just make up stuff.

I mean a lot of Chinese people speak with a heavy accent. I don't think the professionally trained people sound ugly. It's also because a lot of Mandarin people speak loudly. But what I think it is, is the Cantonese people speaking even louder haha. I think 8 out of 10 people don't know the difference and from experience a lot of people didn't even know there were two languages.
I don't think people can differentiate between the different languages in the Chinese language family, but what is unfamiliar to the ears can be tough to like sometimes.
I've heard people speak Mandarin many times. I have always thought of it as a nice sounding language.
I have never heard someone say that the Chinese language is ugly in my entire life.
