The gun is a good one. But I really think the water screw is much better choice. Many other inventions came from the water screw. Like screws, grain elevators and so many more
The water screw or better well known as the Archimedes' screw and also known as the screw pump, Archimedean screw, or Egyptian screw,

The water screwis a machine used for transferring water from a low-lying body of water into irrigation ditches. Water is pumped by turning a screw-shaped surface inside a pipe. Archimedes screws are also used for materials such as powders and grains. Although commonly attributed to Archimedes, the device had been used in Ancient Egypt long before his time.
If you showed Archimedes a gun, he would think it was the greatest thing ever.
I very much agree.

No shit. The terrorists are the governments
Yes, guns are a power equalizer, to an extent.
There's a very good reason Marx was emphatic that any attempt to disarm the working class should be resisted by all available means of force.
I really think that it's the worst one. In my opinion the world would be a way better place if they didn't exist.
Thats a really really sad worldview.
And now imagine that guns didn't exist. He won't have an ak47 😉
A rock isn't even nearly as dangerous though.
Sure, but it's not *as* dangerous. Would be way harder to go rampage with nothing but a pen 😜 and easier to stop
Guns have actually made the world less violent. Before guns there were way more wars, more killing, more raping, more pillaging. Guns are a civilizing force, they take violence out of the hands of the young and strong and make it available to the old and weak and frail. This is a gamechanger and not enough people appreciate how much it really did make everybody equal and give good people the ability to enforce law and order.

I know I'll take all kinds of flack for this answer, but personally I don't understand why anyone would seek out the capacity to end another human's life, let alone celebrate that capacity. Because they're so ingrained in US culture I'm not necessarily in favor of banning guns, but I do think we should endeavor to evolve past a need for them. Fetishizing them brings out the worst qualities in people. The kind of people I believe people should try and emulate are figures like the Dalai Lama , whom I don't expect to see praising guns.
Handguns are pretty bad ass but they are made and used for one thing and one thing only. They are made, designed, and created to kill humans. There is not other need for slavery handgun. They are not designed or created to kill animals. The more time that goes on, the more rifles and shotguns are being designed and engineered to kill humans. If your not prepared to kill a human being, you should not buy a gun unless it's for hunting. Guns are not toys and are dangerous when in the wrong person's hands.
Well, yes, in terms of how largely the invention has changed our lives and the impact it has had, sure, "great" in that sense, but not if you mean "great" in a positive sense. They're nothing but forces for negative, and always have been, other than old flintlock hunting rifles from 300 years ago. Control is only a positive to the person doing the controlling; the controlled party obviously isn't having anything positive happen to them. And that's only a good thing if the controlling party is fair and just and is trying to affect long-term positive change, which is rarely the case.
Nah. There are far better inventions. Guns are basically the same old pointy sticks we've been using for millennia, only much faster. Eventually, they'll be replaced by even deadlier weapons that by and large do the same thing.
They just don't compare with vaccines, electricity, space travel, etc.
I’d say I hold the opposite view. Nature does not intend for the weak to defeat the strong, pretty much ever. It also contributes to oversurvival of our species that can’t be sustainable long term. Natural order is far more important than any human desire for comfort, health, happiness, or safety. You can’t just cheat nature ultimately because you’re scared of getting beaten up, that’s wildly out of bounds, in my opinion.
Guns are the great equalizer, god made man but Sam Colt made them equal.
That being said I prefer to use my hands and more archaic weapons.
Guns while powerful are only as useful and deadly as the person wielding it. Someone who's willing and able to kill will always win in the face of someone who can't or won't pull the trigger.
lol one of the lowest IQ posts I've read on this site, and that's saying something.
Think about the wheel, or electricity, or the internet, you know, invention that creates framework for other inventions.
Guns aren't even the most important in the list of weapons technology if you use your two brain cells to think about how to deal damage with lowest risk 🤦♂️ 😂
I find it sexy when a woman has a gun
Dominant women love guns
My fiancée has a few guns and yep hehe
Yes Guns are one of the greatest inventions they allow for personal expression , self defense , hunting , some are beautifully engraved. It allows countries to defend themselves as well as allies.
A Gun is a tool it's not dangerous it's the person using it that can be dangerous.
Shooting sports are safer than
Baseball , football , swimming , riding a bike , driving a car !
One of it's best but I wouldn't say the greatest I agree with you they have definitely put man on the top of the food chain and also saved and harmed lives. I've went to school to work on guns I enjoy them own a few myself and as another comment said without them nations wouldn't have been created. 1776
The reasons you just described is a good reason why it's one of the worst inventions.
Hey without guns my country would still be under English rule so they are a great thing
@Jackpot3Sevens Not sure where you live but would England have ever been able to carry out their imperialism without guns in the first place?🤔 Where I live, they just would have probably lost an arrow fight vs the natives lmfao
Clearly, since taking lives is a much higher and nobler calling than curing them of disease, or educating them, or developing them spiritually. And once you kill them, all these other actions become irrelevant immediately!
I would pick others as the greatest invention, Internet, Books, Medicine, ...
I would pick knowledge, communication, saving lifes, over a tool that is just for killing.
Its better to create, than to destroy.
Yes and Colt had one of the most badass ads ever "God created all men and Colt made all men equal".
Before firearms combat revolved around one handed and two handed swords, axes hammers and more. To survive combat you had to be fit agile and skilled in close combat.
Now a days we are all on equal footing only thing that has some sway would be ones accuracy but you can compensate for that after adjusting your shots down range
Control a hundred... I'd say: ONLY when the crowd isn't hungry or angry, and ONLY if the magazine has 100 bullets or more.
One knife thrown will prove Lenin wrong.
One even greater invention: the bullet proof jacket.
I don't know...
Have you ever had Arby's curly fries?
They are certainly powerful and a leap in the ability to kill. I would agree it's one of the greatest inventions.
The mechanics, physics, and chemistry all at play are fascinating.
What we do with them is a different story though.
Indeed, and that’s one of few quotes from Lenin I can agree with.
Yes they are! I feel somewhat turned on when I hear gunshots, especially from rifles or shotguns 😍🔫 I wish they were more accessible in my country though 😖🇮🇪
No. Give a man a gun, and all the others get guns. Violence breeds violence. There are many other ways to resolve problems than to use a gun.
Yeah, one of, not the greatest.
Actually does more than any voter law or piece of paper to make all equal.
You might be a super bad ass navy seal , but if grandma sneaks up on you with a.38 your'e worm food.
From that point of view one could definitely argue that guns are the greatest invention out there. That is, until we invent another weapon with a better power given-efficiency to carry ratio
Nah, there are many far better ones. Printing press, sewage, compass, calendar, vaccines, refrigerator, transistors, airplanes
Nah.
they wouldn't work if we hadent first invented the means to make fire
Not at all. What about the wheel, internal combustion engine or the A/C motor, the personal computer?
“You can get more of what you want with a gun, and a kind word than just a kind word.” - Al Capone
Ye ye, that's great and all but have you heard of FLEXTAPE?
No, mans greatest technological innovation is the block and tackle pulley, our greatest invention is scientific methodology.
One of the best and one of the worst at the same time.
Yes, they have facilitated the past few centuries of development.
No. They are not even very complicated.
Humans have been the dominant species way before guns were invented.
yes they're one of man's greatest inventions
No E. M. P tactical artillery is man's greatest invention.
Meh... more efficient than arrows and cannons, not one one of the best inventions tho.
"God made men, but Samuel Colt made them equal."
I think it would be better if we didn't have any
I think it's not, bc it (helps) kill people
Of course not. That's just stupid to think lol.
Guns are good for protection.
Here's a better one. A gun maker.
All true.
Yes, absolutely.
No..
Agreed
No, the internet is.
No worst
Soap is better.
