Why Didn’t The Passengers On The Titanic Climb Aboard The Iceberg?

Actually, they did.
The majority of the area where Titanic sank was covered in ice sheets.
The problem was that once you already fell in water, you were pretty much instantly dead from hypothermic shock anyway.
Only like 5 people who came in contact with water actually survived, many of those people who were rescued still died from exposure even after they were boarded on the rescue ship which came afterwards.
Thank you for sharing this information & as for the people who climbed on the icebergs do you think those people we’re frozen within a few seconds or minutes? How cold was the water that night?
The water was below freezing temperature, so you would die in about 15 minutes, and earlier if you suffered heart arrest from the shock.
Now that I've read up more about it, it says they have only "helped" 5 people into the lifeboats from the water, but it doesn't say whether these people actually survived.
Since it took hours for the rescue ship to arrive, it's likely that even those people who climbed out of water into the lifeboats still died, unless they had a change of clothes and were also helped to warm up.
I actually wonder how far ahead the men in the Crows nest could actually see at night back then. In the enquiry afterwards, the sailor up there said they could have provided earlier warning if they had binoculars, but in darkness it's uncertain if that would have been a major advantage.
I’ve watch documentaries & I wonder the same thing & if the crew had binoculars that night would history be altered? In addition instead of hitting the iceberg from the side what would happen if they hit it dead on instead? Ships should have been equipped with forward facing lights.
Well interesting it wasn't the Crows nest that spotted the iceberg first apparently. Some say if the ship hit the iceberg head on, it may not have sunk, but not sure about that.
If the Titanic didn’t hit the iceberg how do you think history would have been rewritten? So many people lost their lives & famous people as well.
Not sure, I mean that tragedy actually Influenced the future engineering of ship building, so not sure if this as advances would have happened eventually or just until something similar happened later.
They had already passed the iceberg. Plus the water was so cold they couldn't even feel their fingers after a few minutes so they couldn't have climbed out if it was right there anyway. It's hard to climb up slippery ice even on a good day.
😂 I can't... Oh my gosh! I can't 😂
Yes you can & something tells me I like your answer already!
Really? A 7 word comment gets MHO? Remind me not to post in your questions anymore. Sheesh.
@Daniela1982 You know you love her answer & when I read it for the first time I started laughing & how could I not give her MHO’s? Honestly I think she’s holding back on what she really wanted to say. Daniela do you need a hug?

because the boat diedn't just sink right next to the iceberg xD they went on for quite some time, cause the only grazed it. and then also you don't know if the iceberg was shaped in a way that made it possible to get on it. furthermore, being soaking wet on an iceberg would probably still make you freeze to death before help arrives.
The iceberg wasn't necessarily large enough either, the problem was the metal used to make the ship was to brittle under its Atlantic operating conditions. So the iceberg just had to be large enough to crack it. Also I sure you know most of the iceberg is below the surface.
They had passed it, moving at speed... It would be too far to swim too... plus the water was too cold to survive long.
How cold do you think the water was that night?
If Icebergs were in it, it was probably cold enough to kill in minutes.
Considering the area it was easier to jump in water I guess because how many people could be on iceberg even if you remove the fact that they would freeze to death and also titanic hit the iceberg possibly the iceberg bd unstable and also broken..
The water was probably warmer than the iceburg.. Survival rate higher in the water...
If you were soaked from the frigid water & you were able to climb on an iceberg would you freeze instantly?
because they were probably well past it when it finally went down. its not like it hit it and stopped the whole time it was moving steadily onward
I wonder how big the iceberg really was?
It's not like the ship was impaled on the iceberg. It sideswiped it & then continued on.
Ummm because the ship had already passed the iceberg when it sunk...
Too steep and slippery
Could you imagine if there was a polar bear on one of those icebergs? First you jump off a sinking ship & after that you climb a steep & slippery iceberg & after that your face to face with a polar bear. Steep & slippery, hahaha!
(Exit, stage left, pursued by a bear...)
Most famous stage direction in history
It would suck if you climbed the iceberg & finally got to the top & a penguin threw a snowball at you.
I’d throw one back
Because all was inside there was freezing cold outside..
No one wants to go to ‘da BURG’
No BURG for me however I would like a BURGer!
Because global warming melted it to fast
Even after global warming melted it to fast, the Republicans still refused to believe in global warming. Even to this day, President Trump doesn't believe in global warming.
Because that wasn't possible.
