More funny in a way, I've got 3 brothers and was brought up in a household where we just regularly took the p*ss out of each other but with a (hidden) bit of affection, so it kinda encouraged a desire to prove people wrong but enough self deprecation not to get big headed about it. Even away from home I played a lot of sport growing up, and until a growth spurt was kinda one of the smallest players in most of the teams I played in. I loved being underestimated by the opposition, especially playing football I'd always target there biggest player/mouthiest player to tackle as soon as possible to let them know I wasn't intimidated... it didn't always work but hey that's a metaphor for life lol

It's not funny, sad or pathetic. It's just stupid. Looks can be deceiving and people can surprise you. Except for blonds. We all know what they're like.

It can be sad for the person being underestimated. But when a person who does it winds up with egg on their face it can be either funny, sad or pathetic, depending on the circumstances.
