No, it doesn't. If anything, it makes it worse on that person's part because they just admitted that they aren't worth respect because they don't have respect for other people. They may come off as a jerk, but that doesn't mean that they have to be a jerk. There is a difference being acting and being. However, if they are a narcissist then sadly to that person it is justified, but to others with common sense, it obviously doesn't. I never understood that part about people. But then again, it's not worth stressing over with those types.

No. If anything, it makes you far worse, because you're self-aware, yet unwilling to change such behavior (assuming you were unwilling to do so). Most assholes don't know they're assholes. So the ones that do are really bad.
