Does someone having a drinking problem, may even be an alcoholic, if the main reason they want to move to an area is due to the "wine culture"?

I was talking to my colleague & his girlfriend yesterday. They're moving to this area - which consists of 5 small towns about 20 minutes apart - and she said she wanted to live in X town because of the "wine culture".

I was amused by this ignorant reason. Not just because the town offers most than booze but because the whole region's known for it's wine culture. Then I got to thinking... she *must* have a problem with drinking if that's her motivation.

Funny the girls say "no". Like said there's far more to this town than booze - such as theatre, plays, etc - and yet wine is the paramount thing. Alcoholics themselves?

Many seem to have a hard time comprehending what I wrote. Maybe lay off the booze & the dope. ... I hear it fries the brain-cells. The ENTIRE REGION is KNOWN for the wine. Not just one town. So wanting to live in one town when the ENTIRE REGION is KNOWN for wine is redundant

She likes wine, doesn't necessarily mean she has a problem with it. She may or may not, but you can't make that assumption based on this alone. And especially with someone you don't know. Would you like someone making that judgement if it were you? Especially someone that didn't even know you. I mean, I get what you're saying, to do something like move for a this reason isn't "sensible", but people do things like this all the time. Irrational and impulsive decisions. And it may be the only reason he mentioned to you, but may not be the ONLY reason, he just didn't talk about them.

Some people like the social aspects of the wine culture. It is a little pretentious for me but each to their own. Many people purposely move to a state where cannabis is legal so they can get high without worrying about getting busted. Most of them do not become drug addicts.

okay- sorry. now I see. I live in an area that is close to the ocean. There are about 6 towns nearby and they all have a nautical vibe. However there is one or two towns that everyone wants to live in. Mostly inhabited by the rich and snooty. So maybe it is a prestige thing about living in a specific town.

There are different reasons people may like to move to an area that shares such unique culture. Some indulge in wine-tasting as a hobby, while others may even be an importer/exporter of the beverage.

Not really, that’s like owning a vineyard because you’re a alcoholic when it’s just a nice thing to own and make money with while enjoying some of the culture of wine
