I've never been spanked. I did come close once, though, I think I was about 10.

I did something bad (don't even remember what it was) and my mother said "wait til your father comes home. He's gonna whup you!". My father always had a belt (he called it a strap) hanging on a hook in the kitchen. That was his spanking tool, though he never used... the threat of using it was bad enough for my sister and me.
