+1 yYeah, almost on every one 😅 When I was a kid I used to celebrate it and would be so excited about it, but as I grew older I started disliking it.
I don’t like celebrating it because it’s like any other day to me 🤷🏻♀️ Somehow I’m always sad or cry on my birthday 🤣11 Reply- +1 y
It’s the same shit for me

+1 yI’m sorry about that. I wish you a happy birthday though.
What are you feeling sad about?
I always seem to feel sad on my birthdays. Not necessarily because of loneliness or getting older, it's more of just not feeling like it’s something to celebrate. I enjoy the love and everything people offer, but to me it just feels like another day for me.05 Reply- +1 y
I just feel lonely. Over the past few years there was one thing that resulted in not doing anything other than doing stuff on my own or laid in bed.
This year was the first year where I could have spent it with my family but oddly enough I didn’t want to drive to my parents house. They have been waiting for me though. It’s weird. It’s like I got used to spending my birthday alone but there’s that human element to me that feels the loneliness - +1 y
I understand. You do eventually get used to being alone and doing things alone after a certain amount of time. I guess for you, being with family on birthdays is now feeling out of the ordinary.
How have you been coping with the loneliness? Or at least the sadness?
- +1 y
The military was the cause of not being around my family for my birthday. Then covid hit and my family was morbidly terrified of it. Resulting in another year of spending my birthday alone.
It’s not just my birthday though, I noticed that even on holidays where I normally meet up with the rest of my family haven’t been a thing for over 2 years because of the pandemic. So covid did play a significant role in why I think I am this way now - +1 y
I haven’t done much today. Went to the gym and slept, and made myself some tacos but that’s about it
- +1 y
I understand the part about military. My boyfriend is in the military as well and he hadn’t seen his family on his birthday (and other holidays) for the past 3 years, it’s definitely difficult for him, so I sympathize with both of you.
Covid definitely made it hard for a lot of people too, and I’m sorry. I hope eventually things could at least go back to normal.
You did more than what I would do on my birthdays. Sending hugs, and you should get yourself a piece of cake too.🎂
Plenty of times. This time too, on my 21st birthday went by while I was suffering from covid and giving my mid semester exams in online mode while my mother was going to have surgery done on her gallstone.
Several birthdays have passed by which weren't great either and I fail to see it's importance any more.
Wishing you a happy birthday though!10 Reply

+1 yIf you feel sad on your birthday it’s simple don’t celebrate your birthday or do what I do & have a deferred birthday & have it in the summer.

what makes you feel gloomy?01 Reply- +1 y
Idk… I just felt really off that day. I was at an all time low. As if I didn’t have a reason to be happy or anything despite my family all calling me begging me to go over. I stayed in bed pretty much the whole day

+1 yI remember while visiting China as a teenager, it was my birthday and not a single cousin showed up to celebrate with me cause they did not care so my aunt bought me a stuffed parrot toy to make me feel better. I still have it in my basement.

+1 yYes, a few times. Most of them were spent alone (aside immediate family). Rarely ever had friends over.

How did you cope with it? I found sleeping helps
- +1 y
When I was 16, I hid under the dining room table and cried a lot. Later years, I just made out that I was happy that I was happy getting ANY kind of a party. Recently, now that my entire family is dead, it's just another day of the year, for me! At best, I'll buy myself a fairly expensive present, something nobody else would ever buy me and that I've wanted for a good while.
+1 yEvery birthday after your 18 is shit in my opinion lol well has been for me, so much so I don't want anything or do anything for it...

Anonymous(25-29)+1 yYeah. That's why I don't bother celebrating it anymore and I tell others to not remind me of it. They're welcome to give me whatever they want but not on that day.

Happy Birthday, hopefully you feel better after it121 Reply- +1 y
It was yesterday. This is the 2nd year in a row where I just felt off. I ignored my family members completely and didn’t even show up to my parents house like I planned on doing. It’s odd.
I just don’t feel like my birthday is worth celebrating anymore - +1 y
Sorry to hear that.
- +1 y
That is odd, do you feel that way even after Birthdays?
Thats understandable, ig it comes with age - +1 y
Well, the past 4 years I didn’t do anything for my birthday. For different reasons.
One cause I was away doing military shit, then 2 years cause of covid. And then this year cause my dad just undergone surgery…. Which I called bs on why we couldn’t go to a restaurant but whatever.
So cause of this I felt unappreciated or un loved. Even though my parents planned something small at their house and were blowing up my phone begging me to go. I didn’t. I shed a few tears and made myself some food that day and went to sleep early. I knew that the sooner Monday came the better I would feel cause once I go to work it’s a clean slate and the thought of me turning older on my “special day” is over - +1 y
That sucks
- +1 y
Yeah. But that’s just how my life is now
- +1 y
Ig it is
You could spice it up with some cake - +1 y
Lol. I don’t like cake. They bought some crème brûlée pie… and my brother came back to our apartment with it. But they ate 95% of it…
Oh well - +1 y
You can eat other foods. Burger, fries, spaghetti... Anything. It's your day!
- +1 y
I ate tacos

I know I'm giving off bipolar vibes but it's just that I'm a student of psychology and I feel the need to fix any possibility of problems I come across.
- +1 y
If I lived in a state where I could have taken my guns and shoot at targets in my backyard I would have done that. But nope.
- +1 y
Any other activities?
- +1 y
Crying a little and sleep helped. I went to the gym too but lacked the desire to do my cardio. Just did a somewhat mediocre lift. I just felt really down, there was nothing I could have done to really get rid of it
- +1 y
Crying always helps. It's therauptic for men, since they bottle up so much. I'm obviously stating here the obvious.
- +1 y
Yeah, I’m not the kind of guy that bottles up my feelings/emotions.
- +1 y
Not ashamed of admitting it either

Very healthy
