Hurricane Ida should be upgraded to Cat 5. What do you think?

While looking through some NOAA data, I found two SFMR data points in excess of 157mph (Category 5) and also found a Dropsonde data point in excess of 170mph sustained.

this happened about 30 minutes before Ida's landfall in Louisiana.

Based on these findings, Hurricane Ida should be upgraded to Category 5 when NHC finishes writing their post-season report on the storm, which they are annoyingly behind schedule publishing their paper for some reason.

Cinder block fails at 135 sustained, so does not help. Category 5 destroys anything it hits anyway.

that must be American standards. in germany, houses don't start falling appart before 140. and that's mostly old houses losing some singles or sometimes a fassade. not the entire house gone.

Germany never gets 140mph sustained storms anyway.

we only had 200kmh (120mph) storm few months ago. it doesn't happen often but usually not much happens. i mean you know the same in america too. like why was new york never ruined by a hurricane? cause they built better there.

YEah, but wind damage is the 8th power of wind speed, so 150mph to 160mph does 6 to 10 times as much damage

I'm trying to get laws passed to increase building code standards for my home state, but nobody else wants to do that it seems. I guess it's easier for people to pay insurance than build a house right to begin with.
