Have you ever been in a car accident before? What was the worst one for you if so?

Yes - when I was 17, and had my first (ultra crappy) car, a guy behind me - in a brand new Honda Civic - was both driving well above the speed limit and wasn't paying attention. I'd passed him when he was on a side street waiting to turn in my direction, and there was traffic that he had to wait for, so to catch up to me as soon as he did, he was probably going 20 miles over the 25 MPH speed limit.
Just a short distance down the road was a fire station, and as I was approaching, the fire trucks were pulling out with their red lights spinning. I stopped a bit quickly to avoid entering the "keep clear" zone painted on the road, and a second later, got rear-ended and knocked almost through that zone. The fire trucks stopped for a second, but I waved them on.
The Civic had major damage - everything forward of the motor was damaged. My crappy VW Rabbit had a metal bumper that was caved in, a few dents below the bumper, and it had cracked tail light assemblies. I got a check for about $800 (of which I spent $70 in junk yard parts to fix my car well enough considering it was junk to begin with), but I WAS sore for about a week from the impact. The guy wasn't happy about his brand new car, and tried to blame me, but of course, that didn't fly with anyone.
My brother was less fortunate, hitting a big patch of ice during a Cleveland winter:
And his girlfriend had a little problem where she was looking at her phone, didn't see the traffic stopped in front of her, and in her panic, hit the accelerator instead of the brake. Scratch one Prius.
@spartan55 Well, the pickup sat pretty high, the Prius was very wedge-shaped in front, and contact speed was about 60 MPH. Still, I agree it's impressive. The Prius doesn't look all that bad at first, but there was lots of not-so-obvious damage, and it was totaled.
Honestly, she might well have been killed if the car hadn't run up under the truck like that. Lifting the truck ate up a lot of kinetic energy over a much longer time. If she'd hit something like my work van, full of stuff, it would have been like hitting a concrete wall. You might also notice that the front of the truck is smashed - two other cars not shown were also involved.
four-
1. T-boned by a bus (driver) who ran a stop sign. totaled
2. front bumper guard ripped off by a (drunk?) driver going about 80-90 mph while we were waiting at a red light. (just lost the guards)
3. mini-van cut off on the interstate by some maniac - totaled
4. Caught a patch of "black ice" in a freaky ice storm, coming down a hill. I fishtailed 6 times and was able to recover only from the first five. Car vs tree. Totaled.
survived them all- my guardian angel is working overtime!
Yes, I think I told you about it, I was in my moms car driving west, and someone traveling northbound, ran a red light, hitting me exactly I the middle of the drivers side! She T-banged me, or whatever its called, she basically slammed right into ME! Ever since that happened, I have suffered with sometimes unbearable migraines, as well as persistent neck and back pain, I even have to take narcotic pain killers, as needed to control the pain, the up-side… I got my Florida Legal Weed card, so I can eat as many edibles or smoke as much herb as I want to, right in front of a cop, and there is nothing they can do! But tbh, I’d trade the back pain and migraines for a legal high, any-day!!!
I feel like you might have told me this one.
Wow that sounds terrible. Glad you are generally ok now
Thank you Doug, that’s really sweet of you!
Yeah, only in one so far.
We were in Switzerland, visiting some people and my aunt, this woman and me were well seeing some places and this other car drove into us. Into the right back side of the car, where I was sitting.
Thankfully nothing happened to us tho only the car suffered some real damage
But I believe we only got away, cause the other car was not that fast

Yeah only in 1 accident so far. It was when my dad was driving home from hometown and I was with him. It was an empty road. I was chatting with my dad. Suddenly a cow ran infront of the car. And the front part got scratched, the name plate was separated. No injuries.
In my place - cows don't have name plates :)
Well... in India things must be different; heh heh.
@andreasderjuengere by that I mean name plate of car. Not cow.
just two bigger ones, one i was little and don’t remember what happened but it gave me a small scar on my eyebrow that’s not too noticeable. the other my family was driving through the mountains and a deer jumped in the road. my mom safely swerved out of the way of the deer and though our car was totaled the other outcome could’ve been us falling down the side of the mountain since there were no railing. quite lucky in both situations.
One fairly major one that I got very lucky. I had worked a 60 hour week and was driving my then 6 year old son. Thank God he was in the backseat in his car seat. I dozed off for a moment and when I snapped to I was heading into 3 lanes of traffic stopped at a red light. (@6 cars) I didn't have the time or
distance to avoid the vehicles so I tried to squeeze in between two SUVS and rear ended them doing around 50 mph. I primarily hit an old 78 Toyota Landcruiser and that thing barely had a dented bumper, what a tank. Airbag came out and the Ford Explorer was history. No injuries somehow... I was so scared and relieved my son was not hurt...
Yeah in December, the worst part was how insurance screwed me over, even though it wasn't my fault.
I was stuck in traffic, couldn't move and a guy pulled out behind me, floored it and rear ended me. Going around 50 mph, such an idiot.
My vehicle was paid off so they totaled it and forced me to take on a new car loan, that I'm not in a situation to handle. Since it is a terrible time to buy a used car right now, I never would of done this.
I've been in 2 and that's how I've concluded these new cars are a POS. I live in Milwaukee, WI and the winters here are horrible. Once it was on the verge of spring, but it still snowed and the streets were icy/slippery. My '01 Denali slipped off road into a tree and just broke the bumper. Then I had a '10 Equinox for awhile and drove that on the freeway during a horrible snow storm. It was like driving on air! I slid right into the wall when I did the sharp turn getting on the ramp.
We were four or five guys in a small car, going the usual 60 in a 50 zone. Suddenly a car in front of us had to brake to a full stop and due to a wet road and weak brakes we skidded right into it. Nice crash and nice whiplash.
Cherry on top: The crash happened right on a city tram switch, so we got to block a tram line, too. :-)
I've never been in one while I was driving but so many times when my mother drove. She seemed sort out of zoned out sometimes. For example, one time she was driving on the wrong side of a one-way street with another car approaching and she didn't even slow down my sister and I shouted, "STOOPPP!" but she didn't and we just rammed head-first into that car and I got thrown from the passenger seat into the dashboard. She just had no practical sense like this.
[...] she didn't even slow down [while] my sister and I shouted, "STOOPPP!" [...]
Argh. * zoned out, sorry.
Just one. I hit a deer on a highway during the rut. It was looking for love instead of cars. It did $4,600 in damage to the front end of my car.
Yikes 😬
Severe ones - only twice.
The first when I was 6; my Mom lost a leg.
The other one: I had to steer into a ditch at high speed when an idiot pulled out from a side road right in front of me. He thanked for saving his life by driving away.
In both cases I wasn't injured myself.

I was 18 when I lost control of the car that I was driving on curvy road, on a dark rainy night. The road was muddy from logging. I hit the embankment setting off the front airbags and then rolled the car twice. I had to crawl out of the moon roof to get out of the car.
No. But was driving behind a friend who was in a crash. Was awful. Happened in slow motion. She was 7/8 weeks pregnant and lost the baby 💔
Damn :(
Worst one I had was some bish driving in front of me on a rainy day when I'M COMIN' AND YOU KE-
Police said since there was no stop sign, no one's at fault. So we just went our merry way and I couldn't open my right door for a while.
Yes and stupidly wasn't wearing a seatbelt so my head made a nice mess of the windshield
Ouch 😓
Did you go to the hospital?
Yes lol I was ok bit of blood no concussion no sense no feeling 🤣
Phew how long ago?
Glad you’re ok 😘
I've been in a few. My worst one was one where I was sitting at a red light when another car rear-ended me going 60 mph in a 45. My neck and back were injured. Had to go to physical therapy to get my back muscles to perform correctly.
Yes. The worst was my most recent because, according to the insurance company, it was technically three different accidents. On Christmas Eve. In Chicago. Half an hour away from my uncle's house.
When I was driving my son to school and this city garbage truck backed into my car. My son's glasses flew off of him, and I was just really mad at the guy.
not crashes, fortunately... (knocking on wood)
just a few whoops... in racing solo that were not considerable, except for than engine that caught fire
Yes was in a car accident when I was 19, hurt my back pretty badly, had physio for 6 months. multiple procedures later and it's no better really.
2, one was minor and so many years ago I can't remember but the other was an aquaplaning incident into a ditch which did for my back, if it had been faster or the mature oak above the bank... at best I'd be paralyzed already
Nah, have been hit by a car 3 times, when i was a kid.
Close calls with few trucks and cars on my motorbike.
And some idiot rammed my cars driver door in the parking lot, while i was shopping. Only one week after i got it too 😗
Fortunately I've never been in one and hopefully I'll never be.
Yeah , I think the worst one I had was back in 1987 when a guy in a big Lincoln made a left turn in front of me while I was driving my 1978 Camaro Z 28 so basically it was totaled but nobody got hurt
Yes, once
I turned to enter to another street, another car hit me and threw me to a green space
The driver thought Some thing serious happened to me but I was completely intact
Yes.
Nothing to serious.
A guy hit me while stopped at a stop sign.
Lucky he just tapped me
I hope to God I never do and if so, nothing more than a fender bender
Yea, I hydroplaned on the interstate and hit an exit sign which fell on top of the car and did a flip and hit the car again. It was totaled.
I don't if this count but I gotten into a go kart crash once I was bleeding and I gotten injured it was not fun being injured.
99 Ford explorer the kid that was driving drove off the road into a ranch ditch that had cement pylons I ended up biting my lip off and I got something like 3200 stitches in and around my mouth I was so drugged up I lost 2 months of my life
Rear ended buy a utility van. Squarest my Caravan into mini. I did walk away. The driver was sited for using his smartphone while driving.
Yep. About a year ago I was exiting a roundabout and this twat crashed into my passenger.
Been in two. One from a patch of black ice and the other was from a teenager who T-Boned me
I was on my motorcycle the car broadsided me. My fault I pulled out & never saw the car coming.
I died twice, 1992 and again in 2004... I have stopped doing that... oh wait, I didn't die, Who am I? Where am I? Sucks getting old...
Several. Horse ran in front of the RV, totalled it (and the horse); in a maxi taxi van and it rolled going 100kph
No but one time the part of the car that covers the engine hit the glass
Uh, I was hit by a car while crossing the street. I went through his windshield.
Honestly no but my dad do it so that why I can't drive car
Thankfully I haven't been in one.
Thank God, It didn't happen to me
Yes.
What was the worst one?
The one when I was 16? Or the racing accident?
Yeah, steering in chest
Can't say that I have.
Hit black ice and rolled a truck
