Have you ever been in an automobile accident? Were you the driver or a passenger? If the driver, was it your fault? Was anyone seriously injured? How much damage to the vehicles involved?

I've been in three auto accidents, all as a driver, and none of them my fault. I've been sideswiped by a driver in a stolen car, hit by a pregnant girl driving illegally on a learner's permit, and T-boned by a driver who decided to go straight from a turn only lane. No serious injuries in any of them. In the first two, my car was repaired by insurance, albeit with a deductible I had to pay. My t-boned car was totaled and my insurance company gave me enough money to buy a replacement before seeking payment from the other car's insurance.

You could say that!
The first time, I was in the car with my band, Tim was driving and we'd just finished playing a gig in Youngstown. It was about 3:00 a. m. and we had about a 90:00 drive back home. We got about 2 miles from the venue and had JUST rolled up onto the ramp to get onto the highway home and, just as we were making the left turn to get on, Tim fell asleep at the wheel and hit the wall on the left and probably dented, or at least, scratched up the front left corner of the car! Thankfully, it was just a very minor collision and nobody was really even shaken up, let alone, hurt!
About 7 years later, my future ex-fiance was moving to another new apartment and the only thing we had available was Ford Festiva L that her have brother just rented a few weeks before! We'd JUST sent him to the psych ward up the street a few days before this because he was planning on using the car to kill himself because of a girl he loved that married some other guy. Well, we were done making the move and I was taking the car back to where it was rented and we were on the highway just above my house when there was a huge traffic tie-up and cars were backed up all the way across the bridge we were headed for!! So, I was getting ready to stop and only going about 1 to 5 MPH and, I hit the break for a full stop about a second too late and just BARELY bumped the car ahead of us!! There I am, driving without a license and we were expecting the worst!! But, the people ahead of us just turned around, looked at us, smiled and waved and never did or said a thing about it!!
I've also had a couple close calls! Only 2 with me driving but a few others with others driving.

Not a single time and not a single ticket! I'm very proud of my record. That said, I'm that overly cautious driver that pisses everyone off looking for the biggest wide-open space to merge into lanes, driving at only 2-3mph over the speed sign (I'd drive below that if there wasn't so much pressure). I get honked at a lot.

With that said, I've been in auto accidents left and right throughout my childhood. One involved me flying through the windshield because I didn't wear my seatbelt in the backseat when my stupid mother drove head-on without even tapping the brakes while driving on the wrong side of the road. I remember that incident so vividly. She's like, "Why is this car approaching? [while driving on the wrong side of the road]." Then she didn't even slow down and slammed straight into it. In her defense, she was used to driving in a country where they drove on the opposite side. But she didn't even slow down and I was shoutng at her to stop and she was like, "Why?" And I flow through the windshield.

Maybe that's why I'm so cautious as a driver.

I was driving my son to his elementary school one morning. There was a huge dump truck in front of me - it was a City dump truck, not private. Anyway he slowed down in the middle of the street, so I slowed down. He stopped, so I stopped. He went in reverse and smashed into the front if my car (my mustang 😒). My son's glasses flew off of him. The truck kept pushing my car up onto someone's front yard, then finally stopped. I was so pissed. I threw my keys down and started yelling at the driver. I asked if he heard me blowing the horn and yelling for him to stop. He said "no" but his window was down. I think he had the radio on loud. Motor cycle cop cam, asked what happened. I said "He went, I went, he slowed down, I slowed down, he stopped, I stopped, he backed up, we got hit. The insurance wanted to total my car but I refused. They gave me some money and fix d my car. The driver was mad at his self because he said he learned in school to never back up, but to go around the block instead.

Motorbike accident #1, rear ended while stationary in a queue of traffic. Managed to avoid being the filling in a car sandwich. Lucky. Not my fault.

Motorbike accident #2, taxi pulled out in front of me and went into side doing about 20-30 mph at impact. F'in hurt but nothing broken. Not my fault.

Car accident #1, car in front of me stopped, I braked, car kept going. Turned out there was spilled diesel on road. No ABS. Classed as my fault but was basically an accident and not me being an idiot.

Also crashed lots of race karts but as that is on a track and not a road I guess that doesn't count.

oh yeah... I had the flu & boss didn't care so I had to work. 3 days later still coughing but better was omw home with my wife. I was driving & she's going on about how at Disney world when around the toy store people you can yell "Andy's coming" & they will all fall down & freeze & I was laughing my ass off... than I wake up to some random guy opening my door trying to pull my out of the car... smoke everywhere & I was so confused... dude yelled " take your foot off the petal"... than he pulled me out. while laughing my lungs locked up & I passed out going 65 on a 4 lane highway & immediately hooked left into oncoming traffic. Hit a lady in the ass end. took out her driver side rear axle off completely. my poor wife was awake for the whole thing... both of our faces were fucked up cause on the side of the highway was a cliff.. well we hit a tree head on & it saved us. cops said had I turned a half second sooner us & the lady we hit wouldn't have survived. crazy part... my wife said there was no guy that pulled me out of the car... she said she was yelling for me to wake up cause she thought I was dead & the car was about to explode... which it did but we had gotten out. For a good hour after I still didn't know what planet I was on. The morphine reminded me.

Yes and I was the driver and yes it was my fault my defroster had stopped working and I couldn't see out of my window, I thought I had one more street to go till I got to a stop sign and was thinking if I can just make it home I can get a ride back to work and fix it when I get home.

... nope was a stop sign at that street and went right out into the street thinking otherwise and hit another car I saw it in time though to serve out of the way enough that the accident wasn't worse. The woman was thankfully unharmed.

Yes, once in a rainstorm with a bunch of cub scouts in the back driving my wife's brand new station wagon.
Somebody was sneaking up on my right while I was going to get on an on ramp. The other person immediately started flagging down other cars to get them to be witnesses and all of a sudden her boyfriend shows up out of nowhere in his car. How did he know about this (it was before cell phones) a few weeks later I find out I might be going to court. My insurance company found it easier to settle.

I've witnessed several auto accidents occur. None of those were too severe.
I may have driven as many as 150,000 miles in my persona cars between age 16 and 27.

I spent 30 years as a motor vehicle damage claims adjuster/appraiser working in the field. I drove company cars an average of 50k miles a year. So I probably came close to driving 1.5 million miles in my career and over 1.7 million miles in my life. With that many miles, the odds of being involved in accidents are pretty high. So I've been involved in maybe a dozen. Some were my fault and some weren't. Not all of them involved other cars. Some were very minor and none were super severe.

Aside from being involved in a few collisions, myself, I witnessed the aftermath of thousands of horrific collisions when inspecting damaged vehicles.

I've been in 3 (2 as the driver and 1 as the passenger) but none of them were my fault.

The first was when I was first learning to drive. I was downtown and a guy tried to beat the light and failed. Instead of just finishing his turn, he threw his car into reverse and backed into my moms car.

The second I was at work and was in a golf cart going around the property when a truck came speeding down the lot and hit me. I flew out of the golf cart and into a wall.

The third time I was in a car with my wife. She took a turn too fast, began to fishtail along the road and hit a tree which came through my side of the windshield and came within a few inches of my face.

Speaking of my wife...

No joking, she has been in I think like 14 or 15 accidents. Not all her fault, but she seems to have a lot of them for not being a demolition derby driver.

4 as a passenger and 1 as the driver. I was listed as "most are fault" in the police report for the accident when I was the driver, but I will dispute that until the day I die.

There are a lot of details, but the other driver was an illegal alien, no license, warrant for his arrest, car he was driving didn't belong to him, kid (not his) without a carseat, speeding, and swerved around another car before ruining into me (I was stopped and waiting for traffic). He was arrested.

On the police report, I was listed as driving vehicle #1 which means "at fault" or "most at fault". The officer explained to me that the other guy had the right of way. I'll never understand.

I’ve been is several. Half I was behind the wheel. All were caused by the other drivers. A couple very bad, but both being Toyota's their value approved them for extremely costly repairs, so glad as both are dearly loved vehicles. I was injured (others too) in both of the serious accidents, and still suffer the injuries.

Only one serious. I was scooped off my motorcycle by a car. It was my fault I didn't see it coming & pulled out. Failure to yield the right of way was the charge. The doctors told my parents I wasn't going to make it. I should have died. It took years to recover to where I am now.

Yeah, 2 and a passenger for both
The first no injuries but costly repair bills handled away from the insurance companies
The second was a mix of injuries with mine being the worst of the lot but I was still lucky I could have been paralyzed or killed and the car was a write-off

Well, let me see. There was the time I turned my first car into a stockcar and ended up putting it through the retaining fence at the Watertown, NY Fairgrounds.

Then there was the '53 Ford that I stuffed into a ditch, hit a culvert, and destroyed it and some of my face.

Then there was the time I took my '61 Ford convertible on an excursion into a field at 130 mph.

And of course, there is the racing accident. I'm still dealing with the results of that one.

1. I was rear ended by a drunk driver going 85 mph and the thing that saved me was I was driving a Ford 1-ton pickup truck and the bed & frame took the full force of the impact. I was thrown from the #1 lane into the center median and I was wearing my seatbelt I also blacked out from the impact. The driver of the other vehicle survived but suffered long term neurological issues and what was bad they just turned the legal age to drink and they were out partying.

Nope. It's all slow pensioners and even slower tourists around here, so as long as you're ready for it when they randomly pull out right in front of you, there's not much to worry about.
I was once a passenger in a car though, when the roof rack - and the 3 sea kayaks strapped to it - decided to detach from the car roof, in the middle of the M5 motorway, in the dark. How it didn't cause a serious accident, I'll never know (we did make the radio traffic and travel though).

Only one REAL accident. One was injured, not my fault. A pickup truck pulling a trailer ran the red light and collided with a minivan. The truck then sideswiped me sitting at the line. The white haired lady from the minivan was taken away by ambulance. The guy's insurance company offered me a nice amount for my car, which I was wanting to trade anyway, so I accepted it.

I've been in several but I wasn't always driving and it was never my fault. Except that one time I went off the road on my own.

First time I was in an accident was in my brothers car, he got t-boned when the other driver ran a red light. A few people got cut by flying glass, no biggie.

The time I went off the road the car just rolled over and I was fine, car was written off though.

I got blindsided and t-boned one time and bashed my head on the side window (no airbags back then) but I was fine. Car looked like a banana but they fixed it.

I got reared-ended by a pickup truck a while back, those new bumpers absorb a lot of energy. And thank the Good Lord for head restraints eh?

I was in a very serious car accident when I was 16 years old. I was a front seat passenger. The driver was too impatient when crossing the highway. He should have yielded to the car that hit us at highway speed, 60mph? I was thrown out of the car, causing life threatening injury. Another passenger was also thrown out causing serious injuries. Yeah, a couple. Someone rear ended me once and someone t-boned me on the driver's door. Was driving and no injuries from either. The rear ender just screwed my bumper (made from steel) and the t-bone totaled the car.
