Has a hummingbird ever stared at you?

This morning I stepped onto my porch and sent a text message before heading out. There was this intense buzzing nearby and I mentally prepared myself for a hornet or other large insect. I was thinking, "oh man, this is a really big insect". A hummingbird appeared at eye-level three feet away, flying in place and just staring at me. I was shocked and was about to open my camera app when it flew off quickly as it appeared.
I set up a hummingbird feeder 1-2 weeks ago and this is certainly the closest encounter with one I've had. It seemed abnormal so I told this story to a few people. Someone at my work said that hummingbirds normally do this- in fact, they have even been known to eat the sugar water right out of one's hand.
So I have to survey the Gag community: have you ever had a close encounter with a hummingbird?

Oh yes! I was sitting on my patio one summer day and a hummer had just taken a drink from our feeder. It backed off, then hovered facing me, about 6' away. After about 3-4 seconds, it zoomed right at me and stopped about 18" from my face. It looked like it was going to fly right into my face! It parked in the air, checking me out for a few more seconds, then turned and zoomed away.

We saw a hummingbird for the 1st time of the year, the other day. More are on the way!

Found one at work one time. It was just laying on the ground, barely breathing. Once I realized he was just out of gas (they have to eat constantly, and there were no food sources around), I went to the coffee locker and made some sugar water to get him going again. When he got feeling better, he flew about 20 feet away and then circled back, hovered in front of me for a couple seconds, and then took off toward the woods.

Yes. Had one land on my thumb once and drank from the garden hose. I have a lot of hummingbird friends plants in the yard. They are drunk on happy.

What are you smoking⁉️❓❓I have screened porch too with Rex trumpet vine, feed treatment, and Sylvia blues. Never less than 15 early AM. Over last 6 years, NEVER have I had one stop and say,”You you’re looking good, how’s it hanging.”

Yes. It means they are deciding if they trust you or not. Have sugar water ready and stand still if this happens again. He might trust you enough to eat out of your hand.

nope, not a hummingbird directly staring at me so close... but a big ass owl did this once, and the Mexican side of me was a bit uneasy, lol... it is seen as a bad omen

@dustybiker it was perched right outside my the door of my place as if it were waiting... and then we just locked eyes on each other, while I was walking backwards down the driveway because I never shy away from staring contests

Yesterday morning. I was at my parents house and they had neglected to refill the hummingbird feeder outside the kitchen. A hummingbird went to it, and then came over to the window as if to say, WTF?
