Do I OWN guns? HELL YES, I'm a former FFL Class III. I even own a submachinegun that I manufactured LEGALLY BEFORE the 1984 Volker Act. Invested $1,200 in semi auto UZI and necessary DUAL 9mm / .22 LR CALIBER parts; most recently appraised in excess of $17,000 for someone legally-transferable.

Precious metals (gold, silver, platinum) doesn't appreciate THAT well! Classic cars DEPRECIATE with every mile driven. But, a well-maintained 'military grade' firearm is BUILT to BE shot & enjoyed. And in dire straights, I CAN hunt or defend and go to the range (WITHOUT watching a month's pay go 'down range').
I store my guns in a safe except for two which are in my line-of-sight or on my person.
There are NO minor children in my home.

THERE IS NO 'EXCUSE' for anyone's children to have 'easy access'... such parents should be charged as "Accessories before the Act" criminally. Most states HAVE statutes but are seldom actually applied and enforced.

If it's someone I don't know that well, I'd tell them it's none of their business.

If it's someone I know, I'd ask them why does it matter? Why is that a concern whether I own one or not? I may or may not go further in answering them based on what they tell me.

My company has some excessively strict rules against carrying at the office, including against bringing them in your vehicle. Therefore, mine are at home when I'm at work. Both my wife and I have a CCW, so we may or may not be carrying when we're out.
