You are sadly misinformed. In many states in the US, pedestrians DO have the right of way even when not in a crosswalk, though they can be ticketed for jaywalking. Go ahead and mow down a person and their dog and see what happens. You'll be charged with vehicular homicide and soend a long time in jail.

I posted the comparison between the "right" to own a gun and the "right" to run someone over - which is in ways legal if a jaywalker; that's why no law says jaywalkers have the right of way - to indicate how stupid and childish people saying it is their "right" to own a gun is.
