+1 yNo. Not according to what I read. Most people think its from the bible but that does not teach that either.
Genesis shows Adam BECAME a living soul. I did not receive one. - Gen 2:7*
After Adam sinned where did Adam go?
Before Adam sinned - "day you eat from it you will certainly die."
After Adam sinned - "until you return to the ground, for out of it you were taken. x For dust you are and to dust you will return.”
Is Adam the only one?
Psalm 104:29
When you hide your face, they are disturbed. If you take away their spirit, they die and return to the dust.
Ecclesiastes 3:20
All are going to the same place. They all come from the dust, and they all are returning to the dust.
Ecclesiastes 9:10
Whatever your hand finds to do, do with all your might, for there is no work nor planning nor knowledge nor wisdom in the Grave, where you are going.
____
Life after death is a resurrection. If you still live on why would you be resurrected?
Isaiah 26:19
“Your dead will live. My corpses will rise up. Awake and shout joyfully, You residents in the dust! For your dew is as the dew of the morning, And the earth will let those powerless in death come to life."
Acts 24:15
"And I have hope toward God, which hope these men also look forward to, that there is going to be a resurrection of both the righteous and the unrighteous."
----
*Lastly the word for Soul in the bible means breather. So Adam became a living breather. We are told that the soul/life is in the blood at Genesis 9:4 and Leviticus 17:11
So I have no reason to believe in mysterious souls that come back to do what ever people think they do. Nor am I overly concerned about what will happen when I die. The time will pass instantly between my death and resurrection from my perspective.
And I am not worried about any loved one's who die as they are not in pain, nor tortured, they are simply unconscious/ sleeping till they are awakened.
“Lazʹa·rus our friend has fallen asleep, but I am traveling there to awaken him.” ... Then Jesus said to them plainly: “Lazʹa·rus has died" - John11:11-1400 Reply

Anyway, it's something I'd like to believe, if not for myself then the people I care about. That perhaps I just went to hell for that period of time, as hell is supposed to be the absence of god, and that's what I experienced, maybe other people, particularly other family members and friends, have had, or will have a different draw out of that hat.
It's something to hope for, but not something I can believe in. When your heart stops, everything stops, if you're lucky that isn't forever, if you don't come back, then it is.11 Reply- +1 y
If you are unconscious from an accident you would not remember anything of that time. I'll just say that Christians do believe there is. What is the meaning of life if there is not? I guess it depends if you want there to be one. If you do you just need a little reading to see that you will go there.

+1 yI believe that human mind is like a very complex and a highly sophisticated computer.
When we die, our brain - our processor - dies as well and with that, our consciousness, our memories, everything we used to love and everything we used to be - perishes forever.
Our energy stays… Probably, that’s all.00 Reply

It's funny that I come across your question now because I was just thinking about a friend of mine who died last year. It's so weird to say that he passed away.00 Reply

I believe we have a soul is Spirit and our energy and that is who we truly are it's our guide is our teacher it warns us it can also communicate without communicating but if our body is our Temple it has to house something very special and I believe it does protect our soul or Spirit at our energy the whole planet is made of energy vibration everything vibrates vibration is energy I believe when we die our energy gathers our soul or spirit everything that we have done and said and experienced we take with us and I delivery probably going to another dimension I think a lot of us have been here before but yes I do believe that that we do if you understand energy it would totally Amaze you the things that we can do10 Reply
+1 yYes I do I am very Christian. I think that when we die we go to heaven or we go to hell. But the soul keeps living.
Now I am pretty sure at some point and this is just what I think for now unless God changes my opinion and shows me something else that once people are dumped into the lake of fire they are gone... Just done for.
But that is a long time away.
There are so many versions from Christians on what happens after death it really gets frustrating. Whatever it is I just want to be right with God so I am into heaven and not thrown into hell I know that for sure02 Reply- +1 y
The lake of fire is a metaphor for ceasing to exist, heaven is a metaphor for NG+ but without any evil. And you call yourself a Christian when you don't even understand Biblical context.

@bingbongbangbung like I said many times Christians all have their own beliefs. Whatever it is I know that I want to be on the right side of God. Don't you?

+1 yIt depends on what you are calling a "Soul". You mean awareness, consciousness. . .
https://www.youtube.com/embed/43vuOpJY46s
You know that consciousness isn't just a religious belief, right?
There are plenty of real scientific theories on consciousness. And it has to be explained if science is ever to figure out the nature of reality.10 Reply No.
I don't believe in souls.
To me the human mind, all the thoughts that we have is nothing more than just the dynamic physical pattern of electrical and chemical signals in our brain.
And if you could copy all the connections, the chemical states, the positions of everything in the brain, you'd have a exact copy that would be just as much you as you are in my view.
Of course, quantum mechanics indicates that actually making a exact copy probably is impossible...00 ReplyMy faith has changed over the years due to personal experiences and a lot of negative activity in the Christian churches. I used to believe wholeheartedly in eternal afterlife. Nowadays I’m just not too sure about anything related to the Bible/religion.
00 ReplyI don't believe there is such thing as a soul,
I do believe we are just animals who lost their instincts and needs because of progression and we are now lost in a playground that has no use to us.
Believing that we are something more is just another way to justify the fact that we got this far, when in reality its probably just the worst accident mother nature made.
When we die we are nothing more than a carcass, emptiness is what follows and this belief actually makes me wonder why people in really hard situations don't just take the easy way out more often.00 ReplyBased on my supernatural encounters; yes I do believe that our soul is who we truly are and our bodies are an outer shell. When we die; the soul will leave the physical world and depart from its body and move on to the next destination in the afterlife!

Anonymous(30-35)+1 yI know it does because someone close to me saw God while he was awake not on medications and not asleep while he was awake in hospital before treatment so you can’t blame hallucinations. And this guy wasn’t even religious but changed completely after this. Not only this but how do you explain the holy fire that appears at Jesus’s tomb every Orthodox Easter. YouTube it. Even events that are happening in the world now are in revelation. Countless miracles happen but they happen in the Orthodox faith which unfortunately not a lot of people know about but it’s the original Christian faith. Unchanged.
00 Reply"Before & After" can only be experienced by having memories.
Without a working brain, we can't experience time. So in a way, we live for eternity, in the time we were alive. Nothing can change the fact that you once existed. It is eternal.10 Reply
+1 yi know it does. I've seen ghosts and so have 2 of my daughters. i remember past lives. i do not understand how time and space corrilate with life and death but i am certain that begining and end has nothing to do with any of it. "oh wow!" - Steve Jobs last words in this time and space.
00 Reply2K opinions shared on Other topic. I don't know, I've seen and heard some crazy shit. It was either ghosts or energy of past lives trapped in the Earth's magnetic field. Never saw or heard anything like that even when I was on enough acid to fry 4 people. A few people including me saw ghosts or something at the 100 year old house I used to live in. As far as heaven or hell, I can't speculate on that because I'm not dead yet.

+1 yWell what do you think the "soul" is? Your character? Your personality? Well that's all "ego" psychologically speaking and that being a function of the brain, will be gone after you're dead and your brain stops working.

From direct experience I know it does. I know it just as much as any physical fact in my surroundings like, “the tree is there”. There aren’t any religious beliefs or narratives I attach to this knowing, only the mystical experiences that have made it undeniable.

Except that quantum physics disagrees

@bingbongbangbung
Quantum physics doesn't agree or disagree with anything, it's not a mind, its a hypothesis, and a flawed one at that.
Nothing about it conflicts with what I said, most people usually use the term quantum to describe fictional things like metaphysics, magic, or misinterpretations of quantum states, even physicists do not agree on it's existence, let alone how to interprete the data.
It is also is not a valid science, as it conflicts with relativity, and most of it's claims are unverifiable by nature, so you end up with more assumptions than observations, and the majority of it's claims are also self contradictory, so the logic is too flawed to use the scientific method to analyze the claims.
I don't believe that there is a "soul", and I believe that after life is the same as before life, nothingness/abyss.
00 ReplyYes, I truly believe we do live on after death. We are not our bodies. Whatever "we" are that makes us "us" will live on.
00 ReplyYep, ashes to ashes and dust to dust, but for something that doesn't have a material in this universe I think it lasts even after death
