Power from waterturbine good/bad?

This is supposedly the right stuff if you live off grid or just want your own power

Does anyone know if it's good or not? Anyone understand it enough to guess?

It would be a good idea depending on the scale of the power expected to be generated.
But with water shortages in the western United States. Is there enough water to make it worthwhile?
Also would the government allow you to build something like that? So many regulations!
Small scale as in one household. What would the payback time be?
I heard of people building their own water wheel powered generators. That work well of grid!

Thanks for all your valuable input. We're actually not too sure about regulations. We live very far out to say the least. We have a river running through our property and I would assume we should own that part of the river. But I'm not sure. Definitely worth looking into like you said. Or try a small wheel type first 🤔 😊 🙏 thanks for your valuable input at least 👍

@Bratsondanielle. I think that you will find that the government (Army corp of Engineers). Will own the waterways and that disturbing the water flow is not allowed.
Unless of course they don’t know about it!

And the last little thing there is kinda what we're thinking about. This particular turbine is fairly expensive though so it's a huge bet. But we do have some places where the river isn't too visible from above... we rely on it for water already though, and that's not allowed because you have to get "water-rights" so we don't want to draw too much attention. Someone fairly trustworthy in our lives told us that in Colorado you're not allowed to collect rain - which we og course also do... so we're trying to stay under the radar already lol... ssshh don't tell anyone

It's nice for sure. I do somehow think my husband's gonna object to an extra guy lol... but hey let's see January you got the best deal I assure you. Wake up to two died down fireplaces and it's below zero...

The farmhouse that I was raised in was nothing to be in the thirties in the winter. Fortunately my mother loved to sew. So I had plenty of quilts on my bed. You can always add another blanket when cold. But you can only take so many off when hot 🥵!!!
The trip to the bathroom was done rather quickly though!

Trust me we have tons of blankets and pajamas!!! Big Greenland sleeping bags too. Made for ÷20 degrees. We take the whole thing over us on cold nights. The problem is not sleeping... it's getting up!! When you have to get up and it's like 38 degrees inside the house omg... I always have a pallet beside the fireplaces and I immediately get them going

It is good. When I was in grad school I did a report on turbines that generated electricity by harnessing the tides. When the tide would come in the turbine would turn in one direction and when it went out it would turn in the opposite direction.

The device gets submerged and the blades generate power from the tide.

It's for sure a great solution, provided you have the right conditions to accommodate such a device.
From what I've read though I don't know if it'll work for you if it gets that cold where you are.

Depends how you look at it. It's a turbine in a river. Most rivers we drink up before they reach Mexico because all the Mexicans are up here anyway
