BC - Before Christ and AD - Anno Domini, Latin for Year of Our Lord
BCE - Before the Common Era and CE - the Common Era
Which do you usually see and prefer?
So basically they say BCE CE instead of BC or AD... in order to avoid referencing Christianity. BCE and CE might be more politically correct... but its also cancel culture, because the birth of Christ and the coming of Christianity marked a major evolutionary time period within the context of Western Civilization... regardless of if you think Christ is the son of God or not, his birth has historical meaning and relevance. Like it or not Christianity propelled Western Civilization into and out of the Dark Ages and change the entire trajectory of Western Civilization Culture... which all cancel culture freaks would want to you to believe is a bad thing.
So I use BC and AD with in the context of Western Civilization History, because it is part of my culture and I look to promote my culture and will not use terms just to be politically correct when I feel it takes historically in accurate or meant to take something way from my culture. I am not a Christian or religious person, but ethnically I hail from Western Civilization and Culture and I will not deny the historically relevance that Christianity played in the evolution of Western or Euro indigenous peoples culture and civilizations.
But as a guy with a history degree I do belief when you talking about something that occurred out side of the context of Western Civilization, that BCE is more applicable, for example something that happened in China, in 750 BC... clearly if it was happening in China in 750 BC its completely unrelated to Christ and Western Civilization so BCE would be applicable.
The idea behind this "common era"... I'll be polite and say "nonsense" is to divorce the calendar from its Christian roots. This is absurd- not in theory, since measurement of time has nothing to do with religion, but in practice, because it's still measuring from the same starting point. Mark Twain said that there are three kinds of lies: lies, damned lies, and statistics. The nineteenth century was a more honest time; the twentieth added in a fourth type: euphemisms. That's what this is.
If the prospect of using a calendar based on a religious figure bothers you enough to want to change it, I can respect that- really. But the key then is to MAKE YOUR OWN CALENDAR. It's not that hard; all you need is lots of astronomical data (which is freely and readily available) and some fairly basic math skills.
Insisting that changing a name changes reality is a matter of both mental AND moral bitchassitude.
I'm an atheist and I still prefer the old BC AD. Like it or not our western calenders are based on jesus. I don't think we should change to CE just so none Christians don't get butt hurt

u I've never seen BCE/CE.
u The whole "BCE/CE" thing is just silly. Something in history would have to have happened in order to separate those two periods of time, or someone. It's really just an attempt to erase Christ from history, and when you think about it, a pretty pathetic one.
In Paul's letter to the Galatians, he writes that "when the fullness of time had come, God sent forth his Son, born of woman, born under the law, to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive adoption as sons." So seeing as Christ came in the "fullness of time" to fulfill the Old Testament prophesies, in a Christian understanding, using "CE" would still serve the distinction of history before and after the life of Jesus Christ.
I see BCE and CE more often now.
Historians are pretty sure Yeshua of Nazareth - "Jesus" - was born in 5 BCE, give or take a year, so the BC/AD system isn't even rooted in any kind of accuracy.

and
AC = After Christ
CE has is preferred in academic writing. There is also “BP” — before the present time or “YA” — years ago. for times in the distant past.

The only ones that insist on BC/AD are the ones that are so wrapped up in their own religion but they can't understand that not everyone believes in their mythology.
