Woke up this morning to crows hoping all over our roof and tapping away. Their persistence and childish antics cracked me up. Finally yelled out, “Go play on their roof! They are both morning people!” And shut the window. : )
Reminded me of this scene.
Let's just say that whoever said roosters call at the break of dawn has never been woken up by roosters. Break of dawn my ass. They start making a racket 3-4 hours before the sun even thinks about rising.
And mice. It's amazing how much noise a mouse can make, especially when they're inside a wall next to your bed.
Ever hear a rattlesnake slithering around outside your tent? It's not exactly a lullaby, especially considering that snakes love to crawl inside nice warm sleeping bags to keep warm.
Ever heard an elk in rut or whatever they are yacking about? You can hear them a mile away. Image an 8 year old kid after taking his first trumpet lesson practicing in your room in the middle of the night.
Then there was the time I slept out in a pasture and woke up surrounded by cows within a few feet. Picture laying on your side and opening your eyes to cow legs standing sideways a few feet away. I suppose I should be thankful they didn't shit on my face while I was sleeping. That would be a rude awakening.
OK, it didn't wake me up because I didn't get that far. I sleep in the basement and sometimes snakes get in there. So image going to bed, pulling the covers up to your chin and feeling something cold on your neck. I knew immediately that it was a damn snake. It took about 2 milliseconds to grab the thing and fling it across the room. When I turned on the light it turns out there were two of them in my room. One thing about snakes though, being cold blooded and being trapped in a basement, it doesn't take long for them to become very lethargic. That makes it easy to grab them and find a them new home outside. They sure as hell ain't gonna share my bed with me.

One of my german shepherds breeders went out to check on the litter one afternoon, who were in the exercise pen for an hour. She found a rattlesnake curled up, sleeping, with him and his littermates. 😱

A couple of months ago a small bird made a nest in the guttering of the house across from my bedroom window, and with it being summer and having my windows open, it’s incessant chirping kept waking me up at around 7am every morning! 🙉 Thankfully the neighbour had their guttering cleaned (partly because it was disturbing them too) and the bird was evicted 🦅 I’m sure it found somewhere else to make a nest and annoy everyone there too! 😂

m A large tree on the neighbor‘s lawn had an owl in it. That guy liked to make his presence known at night.
„Fun“ story: Somebody in the neighborhood had two exotic birds (I assume) escape. For whatever reason these were afraid of the darkness and screeched back and forth the whole night till dawn. Every night for three weeks, then they were recaptured or fled completely… uugghhh! 🤬😤🔪🪓💣
The owls are lovely. We have a family of three who spread out. It’s like surround sound. Soothing.
Yes!!! The dog next door barked for a whole 2 hours nonstop at 2am then once it stopped the birds that are right outside my windows started chirping for another two hours. I was exhausted.

Yes. Most recent was when dozens of (probably migrating) green parrots took a long break in our frontyard tree and shrieked/squawked loudly all day long.
Wild and free. 💚 Bet that really was noisy though. lol
They were very noisy, indeed. But, I didn't mind them as much as my neighbors who fired a gun to startle the parrots away. The parrots kept returning to our tree. I quarreled with the neighbors about giving the birds their privacy and about how reckless it is to fire bullets up to the sky just to shoo away the parrots. Eventually, the entire flock departed at exactly 5:00 in the late afternoon.
Oh not nice. We had the same thing with our crows and new neighbors. The crows have been nesting here yearly for 40 years. Lucky wildlife is protected here.
Oh yes. We have lots of wildlife here. Some nights the coyotes wake us up and the birds are always noisy in the morning (I actually love it).
We get the coyotes here too. They surround the valley and cry out to get little ones to run. Really echos when it’s foggy.
They start yipping in the forest outside our bedroom window on occasion. It's a little eerie.
It really does. Almost human, some of their tones.
I used to live in an area with pumas. They sound like a little girl when they cry. That's the eeriest wildlife I have ever heard. We used to have a sliding door on our bedroom that went outside. One night it sounded like a cat was right on the other side of the screen. We were both too afraid to close the damn door. 😂 Kept it closed at night after that!

Crows are evil watch what they do its always first thing in the morning or right before dark all the other bird species band together to run them and the hawks off there is always one to distract one to keep look out usually atop a light pole and one to snatch baby birds squillels or whatever
NGL; I've been tempted to shoot birds more than once.

Oh those woodpeckers!!! My husband isn't too happy with my suet feeders because we now have woodpecker holes in the trim and in our trees. 😳
We always enjoy hearing the robins sing, doesn't seem to keep us awake, it's just a pleasant noise in the evenings when they are around. We hear a lot of owls as well, which we are happy to have as well.
@TrueConfection oh no! Home damage. Depending on the species of tree, you may want to make sure your plants are not harboring damaging insects. My husband does a large amount of upper canopy inspections on mature pine stands, because the woodpecker's are after certain bugs during their larval stage. Sometimes those bugs can kill the tree.
He talks about it all the time every spring. That's crazy that the wood Peckers pick the metal parts of your house!

I had one doing that for hours once. Couldn’t figure out if it was a confused baby or something wrong. It eventually disappeared.
It’s crazy huh? Lol maybe it wanted to fight it’s reflection. I had a bird determined to whup it’s reflection on my truck side view mirror last month… it fought for about 10 minutes
Ten min is pretty sane. A bar fight can last that. This poor guy/girl was going at it for 12-14 hours.

@dustybiker No I hear them making sounds from a distance and it's early in the morning. Now we have what is called Summer Doves they are brown in color and I never see Winter Doves up this way in Pennsylvania.
