What happens to your personality when you're online versus IRL?

Online I'm Free and when I'm online, it is True Me. Real life is real obviously, but it is also FAKE, it is not real, it is an illusion. All day long people pretend to be something they are not, people lie, cheat and manipulate, people are faking their smiles and emotions and pretend that they like their jobs, just so they can keep their useless jobs, so they can pay their bills. Therefor in real life, I have no choice, but also to be fake and pretend that I am something that I definitely am not, so I can also keep my job and pay my bills.
My question update which I added before reading your post here conveys the same POV. I defiantly agree with you. My online self is my ideal ego.
A good question for sure.
Years ago I was a shy kid in person and online I had thoughts opinions charm and many good qualities.
It took years, and LOT of effort and growth but today I can say I'm not too different IRL compared to online.
And because of that my life has changed, people deal with me differently and I get many experiences I never dreamed I would get.
Thank you, always nice to hear positive comments especially on the internet.
And you're right being shy is not inherently wrong, but I would advise any shy person to work on themselves and take the leap necessary to get out of it even if it's uncomfortable at first it's well worth it
Yes, I do agree with you. And absolutely ! If people on the planet were happier, the planet would be a much better place.
I can sometimes be a keyboard warrior when I get worked uo, but typically I don’t type anything I wouldn’t say to the person irl. I would say not versions of me are very similar. At the end of the day, all these apps have rules and if you take things too far, whether that’s taking drugs and posting about it, or saying some messed up shit, it CAN come back to haunt you, so I tend to tread lightly. (Thats not me saying i do drugs lol, some people just act careless online thinking there’s no ramifications but that’s often not the case)
"keyboard warrior" I love that. I also agree that there are topics that can't be discussed online, because they will be censored, like a mytake I posted which was about a medical topic that was too "explicit' apparently
Me on here:

Me IRL:

So online you’re chill in IRL you’re savage haha
Yup! XDDD

Nothing much, I'm still the same
much better in person... it is more authentic and genuine, because personality does truly shine when you're actually all of you and not just your written words and thoughts, lol
by the way... I never ever say lol in real life, lmao
It’s interesting because most people seem to be more authentic IRL based on the responses I’m reading, but for me, I feel more authentic online for the reasons in my question update.
Not much difference lately. If someone cuts me off in traffic, I calmly flip them the bird. If someone pisses me off online, I tell them I’m calmly flipping them the bird. 😉
I don’t use the internet to unleash frustrations as provocation as some other people are known to.
It’s funny you mention the bird. I don’t think I’ve ever in my entire life flipped someone off. Somehow the gesture just feels so vulgar and always has that I’ve never been able to do it. People who unleash their rage on innocent people online need help.
I agree completely.
It used to differ, in that maybe I'd be a bit more confident or aggressive some how.
Looking back at messages I sent 10 years ago, sometimes I can't believe how I acted.
It can be humiliating, but the only way you're going to learn how to be a better version of yourself, is learning from the mistakes YOU made, and altering how you proceed in the future!! 💯😊❤️
That’s a great perspective. It’s amazing to look back on a written record of our thoughts and opinions from when we were young. It’s like a time capsule. Very illuminating and illustrative of where we came from and the self-development we’ve made compared to the present.
I'm definitely a better person online Lol
I'm more outspoken, open, funny and I'm able to say many things that I can't say in real life.
Agreed !
fala pt?
legal! quase nunca vejo brs aqui
oh! me perdoa.. como é em Angola?
vou te mandar uma PM
Oh, percebi que n posso te mandar uma message até você aceitar a solicitação para seguir
I can have multiple personalities online. I can’t in real life. Unless I could shape shift. If I had a superpower. It would be shape shifting
Shapeshifting would be great. I wonder how many humans among us are actually not humans at all but are shapeshifting aliens...
Hmmmmm. Lol. I would say like angels can appear as humans. Maybe demons can too?
I totally believe it. Could be djinn too
Yeah I don't know
100x More talkative online and in person the most quiet person you'd probably meet until i get to know you and that can take weeks.
makes sense! typical of the introvert
INFJ-A is what i am total introvert.
I get much nicer and calmer online, more polite
So more my self I think
That's great you are able to express yourself more authentically
I have more time to think online so I probably appear to be more intelligent.
I second this
I'm me; no personality change. There are questions I answer here on line that I probably wouldn't answer at my kids' school or in the church lobby, but what you read is what you get.
To me I see it as your online self is more free and authentic than your IRL self since you curtail some of your behaviors.!
We may be more our real selves online.
The gap will be larger for shier types.
This is why online LDR never work. Reality and Internet personality are not the same. 🤷🏻♂️
My personality online is who I am offline as well. I just talk more in one of them.
It's the same! If I seem overzealous, you should see the fuckers I work with!
I’m sayin
Sayin what? Like in reply?
I’m agreeing with you
Word.
I'm not fake - I don't even edit myself for grammar and spelling errors when I talk online.
Nothing that, I'm the same person on the internet as I am in person.
Its the same, but I don't converse with strangers offline (friends won't see any difference though).
I’m very much the same… could be even calmer online…
@PrettyPriya 🤣
Not much. With me it is what you see is what you get.
when on social media I seem normal and sometimes do useless and stupid things or overdo things and sometimes talk a lot.
when in real life I usually really uphold self-esteem. i try not to much
talk and act calm and mysterious.
Not much. But I'm weirder and more aloof offline.
Literally I should just repost your description.
I get a little pervy.
Online or IRL? (I assume online)
Nothing really, I'm just alil more patient with people
I am quieter online than I am in real life.
It's pretty much the same honestly
I'm nicer online than offline.
Pretty much the same.
I literally act the same
I'm less reserved in real life.
Well, for one, when I'm online I'm not a mime.
What you see on line is who I am.
I'm less articulate and less talkative irl.
Same. I don't talk much outside of GAG.
I'm a goof online and in person.
Not a whole lot of difference.
no idea
same
