I may sound crazy for this, but I never feel lonely. I live by myself and I'm an introvert by nature, so I prefer to be left alone for the most part. When I do get dragged into events by my friends, I'm not shy at all and I have no problems with communication or social skills, but I feel exhausted after a very long day of socializing that I feel like I have to recharge for a few days afterwards.
I have had times out in public without my phone where I would still prefer to be lost in my own thoughts rather than make small talk, because I know those often lead to follow ups that I just don't have the energy for. For that I sometimes feel like talking to a lot of people in a day should be a paid job lmao. (Yes I'm aware that I'm active here which is technically a form of communication, but at least I don't have to play pool with/visit anyone from this portal, so it's just a quick matter of answering questions)
Moral of the story? I'm not a shy introvert, I'm more of the lazy type who doesn't want to talk to people and go out all the time, but does so occasionally.

Sounds familiar. I consider myself an introvert as well. I enjoy being lost in thought pondering watching people interact. I'm not sure if im shy or just selective when it comes to my interactions. I much prefer to text than talk on the phone and rarely answer calls and known to hide when someone is at the front door that i'm not expecting. I was a medic in the Military and in sales post military. Both jobs required me to be social and I had no issues but as you stated I also feel exhausted after a long day of socializing. I'm not sure why this is. I've wondered is it because I have to focus more on the social aspect of it so I can be courteous to the person im interacting with because I know im easily distracted. I like this site as well because I can pick and choose my interactions based on what im interested in. I'm embarrassed to say that Covid well let me not say covid but the Lock Down was not an uncomfortable time for me. It was like a get out of jail free card at times. I would also describe myself as not being a shy introvert. Not sure where you are on Center of attention but that's where the introvert in me lives. Not big on Birthday parties for me. Getting public awards dealt with that in the millitary. Happy and honored to be recognized but I dont want to receive it in public. Also probably not the best at receiving compliments. Is this the way I live out my life or has anything changed or helped you.

@virtue2332 First of all brother, thank you for your service.
I don't really struggle with phone calls as I do initiate them sometimes. I just prefer to text because calls can sometimes drag to hours of talking, and I just don't have time for that, but I have no phone call anxiety.
Yes, the pandemic was a decent time for me as well. It was a breath of fresh air that I didn't have to go out in the same frequency as I did before, and I did prefer online learning over being on campus. I still found ways to communicate with people and play video games during that time (I'm not much of a gamer now but I enjoyed it nonetheless).
I don't like birthdays either. I recently turned 21, and didn't ask anyone to make me a birthday party. I live by myself, so to me a birthday is just another business day. It's perfect because I like routine and I don't want to take time off and ruin my momentum that took me a while to get to in both studies and the gym. - +1 y
@virtue2332 I don't like being the center of attention either, unless the situation calls for it (like having to lead a project for example) but not in social situations. I prefer my small group of friends, but I do know a large amount of people that I consider acquaintances and not friends.
I have tried to live as an extrovert at some point in my life, and what I had realized is that it's very unnatural to me, so I went back to what I was doing before. I don't think you need to change anything really if you're happy with your outcomes, but if you're not then you need to be honest with yourself as to why you are not and what you can do to change it. - +1 y
Thanks for reply. You are wise for your age. I have also tried to be more of an extrovert when I was leading a sales team. I'm good at it and had 10 of the best financial years of my life but it was extremely exhausting, and I always felt like I was acting. Once the suit was on it was game time but it was weird because I felt like I relied on the suit to flip that switch. Anyways I saw some similarities that caught my attention and i've always been ok with my quirks. Been Married close to 20 years so no problems there. I have 3 daughters and my 13 yo is similar I am starting to notice. So I sit and ponder and over analyze it in my head. Whole new generation the internet makes it much easier, but I suppose it also allows other ways to engage that were not available in the past. Thank you for the input good luck with your future endeavors.

Being an introvert, I never feel that lonely. However, I can head that direction when my wife is away for a while, or without music. Side note: since my wife is also an introvert (actually a good thing) when she gets home from a trip SHE needs some quiet to recharge.

Anonymous(30-35)+1 yI feel lonely when the guy I'm in a relationship with is around me
The reason I say that is because I've realized he plays mind games and manipulates me. When I'm around him I feel lonely and alone, because he has a negative affect on my mental state. I'm working on my self-esteem. and confidence , so I can walk away and cut all ties with him.

My family, friends, and girlfriend. I don't mean all day, every day, but when covid hit I wasn't able to see them. Though I refused to admit it to myself then, it made me very lonely now that I look back on those memories of crying myself to sleep wishing I had someone by my side

+1 yI feel lonely... actually I don't know. I've never felt that lonely not being around people and i rarely have material attachment if any. I feel lonely when i feel misunderstood or when other people deliberately ignore that I'm a person who has feelings and can feel the hurt too.
10 ReplyActually there's nothing to fill in the blank with me I've been single and alone for over 6 years so I'm always alone and lonely but if I had to answer that and someone else's View it would have to be a mother a father a wife a husband or a pet
