In your opinion, what makes people popular or well liked, online in particular?

Is it their age, their name, what they look like (if they provided a photo), their content (controversial or not), etc.

What do you think it is? !

I feel like no matter WHAT I do, people don't really give me much likes or attention. I am not really that hungry for it but it just kinda hurts to know that I am trying but I still have haters or people who don't really like me or care about me on here no matter what I do! For some people, it's just so natural for them to get many friends, followers, likes, etc. What are they doing differently that I can do too, at least within my control? !

I still feel bothered sometimes that I ask a lot of good questions, yet barely get any likes for them!

Add: And I am not just referring to G@G but other websites like YouTube (well I know why with that one), Facebook (I'm not that active there but back when I was, I STILL wasn't all that popular or well liked!), TikTok (I don't have an account there so...)... the competition to be popular is just SO exaggerated, I feel it's an extension of high school and junior high but worse because now you have people who are in their 40's, 50's, and older doing it not just teens and people in their 20's! Also, people are just doing all sorts of crazy things for attention and the approval of others, I don't know if that's a smart thing to do! What do you guys think? !

All of the online stuff is based on what the person looks like. It's people typically doing either very clever or stupid things to get attention. They are attention seekers.

Do and promote immoral things. For women, dress and act slutty. For men, support drug use and criminals. Those things seem to get people popular online. The thing is though, they are only popular with other trash people.

  lol true. Can draw in any passersby- observers, but only those who have similar views or those learning would stay.

If I may quote the the band Soul Asylum, "Nothing attracts a crowd like a crowd". People in general are sheep. They feel they're more important or have more value when they attach themselves to others that have greater following.

  That makes no sense though. Someone isn't popular just because they follow a popular person. They are even PATHETIC in my eyes! It's like they couldn't get people to like them so they sniff and follow the butts of those who are? Lol okay.

  As I said people are sheep. And yes to SOME degree people achieve some level of notoriety by attaching themselves to other people of notoriety. How much? Well that's up for debate. People are sheep but they're not so sheeple that they are hive minded.

  Not true. If that were the case then Facebook, MySpace, Asian Avenue, Instagram, YouTube, TikTok, etc. etc. wouldn't have blown up the way they did! People are social creatures as they say. People just LOOOVEE and derive their self-worth often on the opinion of others, especially when they are still young like under 40 lol. Even after sometimes, but mostly people who are under that age, all they care about is popularity. I think it is human nature. It's tied to survival I also heard. Those who were well liked and not ostracized were more protected by the pack if that makes any sense. It is a sad, cruel thing!

  No, popularity is worthless, because most people are stupid, so if you want to get ahead in life and become the best version of yourself with everything you really want, you have to do smart things, be around smart people, learn things most people don't know, do things most people don't like to do, think like most people don't. When the world says "you can't", you gotta say "yes I can!".
  
  The opinions of others mean nothing, you have to be the one to change their minds with proof, show them you are right, not seek their idiocy based approval. Also social media platforms were successful because it allowed friends to keep in touch and share things long distance, it had nothing to do with popularity. Even youtube started out as a place to upload whatever you wanted, to show your individuality and creativity and your interests and hobbies, but after google bought it, they started to pay people, and it became a business platform instead (which ruined it).
  
  Most products and services that are popular suck, it's the obscure ones that tend to be better quality and more fun.
  
  As far as self worth goes, never measure self worth by anything other than your own opinion. To do otherwise is mental suicide.

  I agree with a lot of things you just said, however, I don't agree that popularity is "worthless" still. Why? Because:
  
  1* Have you heard the saying: 'There is power in numbers?' It wouldn't be a saying if there wasn't any truth to it!
  2* I've got three years ahead of you so that counts as something (I am 38 going on 39 in a few weeks), so I am not a child or teenager/young adult that doesn't know what they are saying. <-- Yes, I know that it's a weak argument as people younger than me can know some things that I don't, that's true, but it it's still something!

I don't know even where to begin with that honestly. 1) WHY did they keep on having upvotes and downvotes on there if it didn't mean much? ! 2) Why did they pay the popular ones, the so-called influencers, MONEY, if popularity didn't matter to them! Yes, I know that these platforms are a business, but, if popularity really didn't matter, then they would pay ANYONE and EVERYONE that uploaded anything, regardless of whether it was popular, viewed by a lot of others, and well received! That all wouldn't matter, but it does! So stick to reality please! 3) If you (or anyone) just wanted to keep in touch long-distance, there's the telephone, snail mail, E-MAIL, etc. and most profiles would be PRIVATE and you would need to know something personal about that person and ask their permission to even MESSAGE them! It's like your house address. People aren't just going to put LIKE buttons on your house, especially strangers? That's just weird! Leave comments as well on your doorstep? ! I guess so? ! Lol.

  4* If popularity doesn't matter, then the election for president and all sorts of office polls wouldn't matter. People's VOTES wouldn't matter! A person would just elect themselves president or VP or Chairman, even if they were disliked by a lot of people or people thought they were not competent enough for the job!
  
  5*You can deny that popularity doesn't matter all you want, it still doesn't change the fact that it does.
  
  6* I know what you are saying in that you should be mentally tough that is very true, THAT I agree. But I don't know if I can say that most people are stupid, maybe they are, maybe they aren't, and yeah, maybe I agree that they are, but that is the scary thing: If most people ARE, then that means that the world/and society will be going to the dogs faster than one can say boo... You know what I mean... I agree that there are a lot of stupid people, true, but then that is a worrying thing then, yikes!

Plus, sometimes, the reason why something is popular is BECAUSE it is a good product. A lot of people want it. But yeah, I don't have any actual proof that it IS of less quality as the non-popular product. And the company that created the popular product certainly doesn't have to worry about money, as the product is obviously paying for itself! And also yes, sometimes, it CAN be just hyped up, but other times, it really IS better. Those hyped-up products certainly also help the companies who built them, as they will have better tools to improve upon their said product!

  2. Age is not a measure if wisdom.

I'm correct about why social media is successful, your "points" trying to discredit them are invalid, when companies buy out platforms and monetize the crap out of them and start messing around with features, many users tend to leave, and the product itself becomes worthless trash to anyone with even medium intelligence.
  4. Peoples votes do not matter, when you vote, many paper ballots get thrown in the trash, digital ones get rigged remotely, gerrymandering changes the districts to misrepresent public opinion, votes are not counted as "each person gets a single vote", its instead counted as "each state gets a single vote", then that "vote" is just a suggestion for the state rep (which they can ignore), and then even if by some dumb luck the one you liked gets elected, they can still not do anything they promised. Voting for a dictator is stupid, voting for a dictator using a rigged voting system, is insanity.
  5. No, it doesn't, popular opinion is usually wrong because most people are dumb, I'd rather do what makes sense or what I enjoy, following whats popular is a road to misery.
  6. Mos people are definitely stupid, they don't understand how their local ecosystem works, they don't understand chemistry, biology, technology, physics, astronomy, natural history, or even how their own body works. They are not qualified to say what is or isn't wise, and what is wise ALWAYS is better than what is popular.
  7. it is extremely rare that a popular product is good.

  3. Then they should GET RID of the upvotes/downvotes/likes/dislikes button TODAY. Lets see if if that EVER happens, as I believe ALL opinions are valuable and not more valuable than another! I hope YouTube would do that just ONCE and try it out and so would many of the social media platforms! They should stop paying the popular ones MORE money than the non-popular ones. ... IF popularity does not matter as you say.
  
  With that said, Hollywood should pay popular actors minimum wage too, and take back the money they "overpaid" them in the past. They should give the procceeds of the ticket sales and movie costs and donate them to the poor, NOT to the actors and actresses!

  Also, it IS true that age (in general) IS a measure of wisdom. Don't you dare tell me that a 5 year old has more wisdom than a 20-year-old for example, or a 40-year-old. Just wanted to add that in! They have parents to protect them for a reason. But yeah, I'm being general yes. Otherwise, all that life experience would have been in vain.

  I had more wisdom at 5 than both my parents did, and now I have more wisdom than most people about a lot of things (regardless of their age). And some children have more wisdom than me, so yes, age has NOTHING to do with wisdom.
  
  You can experience many things in 10 days or very little in 10 years, people are not exposed to the same amount of information, evidence, and mental challenges, let alone at the same ones at the same rate...

  Oh come on, you don't honestly believe that do you? ! 10 days vs. 10 years is a huge difference. The odds are greater that the person who has lived 10 years, vs 10 days, has had MORE exposure to things in life than a 10 day old! You're just stubborn with your beliefs lol.   You're wrong because generally comprehension skills are genetics based. There are tweens in college and adults who failed highschool. Your infant anology is dumb, because at that age, the brain has not developed enough to retain memories yet.
  
  Age does not = wisdom, if it did then all people would get smarter with age and typically they only get smarter if they started out with good comprehension skills. Most people get dumber as they age. The brain is more easily able to absorb information when you are very young, like single digits young, its why we teach languages early in life.

You're the one that brought up the infant thing vs. adult. Comprehension skills get better as one ages. Why do you think kindergarteners only learn the ABCs and very basic math and not Calculus you dumb dumb! Lol.
  
  and they TEACH children language at an early age because communication is a basic thing. Even adults can get fluent in a certain language if you expose them that language long enough!
