+1 y"People that say violence is never the answer didn't understand the question."
Forgot who said that. They show a lot of privilege to think that talking things through will always work out just fine. When armed men show up to kill you, or kidnap a family member you're not going to sit down for "tea and a good chat" and convince them of the error of their ways.
Additionally, I don't like getting hit in the face and I'm not inclined to trade blows back and forth with someone if I can "help them onto the ground for their safety" faster with a nice punch to the throat. When a group of people surround you and the woman your walking with, gesturing to their crotch and laughing, they're likely not saying "By George I do believe this denim manufactured at an American plant is superior to the locally produced pantaloons"

Yep we can't control what others do and so we gotta be prepared for anything, even to commit a violent act first

+1 yI see violence as a last resort if nothing else will work. You mention the guy who "talked him away" but to me that's success. No one injured.
If you injure someone, even with the best of intentions, you can find yourself in all sorts of legal trouble. Maybe you will convince the police or a jury it was justified, maybe not. But even if you do, you will have lost a lot of time you could have spend doing better things.
Of course you migth not win - the other person might be armed, or better at fighting than you are. Ending up injured or dead yourself is possible.
So if there is no other choice, sure, but always try to find a better option

Anonymous(36-45)+1 yI consider myself largely to be a pacifist but I'm also very cognizant that every person on this planet has been helped in some way by violent acts. Wars for freedom, wars for justice, wars for human rights, self defense, and those defending others from harm. Cops exist because some people either through their will or under the influence refuse to stop harming others. Just looking around, I cannot deny that sometimes violence is the answer---you hope that you have the opportunity to try words or other actions before it gets to that point, but you or others may not have that option especially in life or death situations.
11 Reply- +1 y
Yep I completely agree
I recommend you try and figure it out with words. Words get you respect, from them and if things work out, your enemy as well. But if they keep being hostile, make a scene, move back, tell them Not to get closer. They get closer? Strike and end it quickly.

we gotta stop automatically assuming the pursuer is the villain and the escapee the victim. perhaps the escapee stole something from the pursuer? perhaps the escapee performed a hit-and-run on the pursuer? whatever the reason, perhaps we shouldn't judge the intentions of people by the color of their skin, their ethnicity, their looks, their age, their gender etc. in such matters

+1 yIf using violence is the only logical way to respond to a situation to protect yourself, then using violence is an acceptable avenue.
If you've attempted diplomacy, and things are only getting worse or it didn't do anything, and you believe you're in danger, then violence is the best option.
But uf you use that avenue, it better be justified and not to the point where you are the one that gets into trouble to the point where you can be locked up for it.
That's my view on the matter.10 Reply1.9K opinions shared on Other topic. I feel sometimes it is the only way. Just Like you I don't consider barking to be any helpful. Biting it is.

+1 ySometimes violence is the answer but it's a slippery slope to descend when you start to believe that might makes right. The following video is for entertainment only and adds nothing to my argument:

Lmao fair enough
+1 yThe sensible response is that violence should only be used as a last resort to avoid unnecessary injury and/or possibly being arrested. Since the guy was able to solve the problem by talking, the situation didn’t require a violent response.
Although similar to you, I’m not very good verbally so when I was in a similar situation I just clocked the guy.

3.5K opinions shared on Other topic. You get into it with a another guy and it is not going to end well:
1. You may be killed or very seriously injured - like paralyzed or lose a limb or get a brain injury. Lots of thing can and do happen. He may have a weapon you don't initially see and may use it on you.
2. You are likely to have some serious legal problems - maybe years in prison, if you kill or badly injure him. Maybe jail or prison after a long court trial that eill cost you $$$$ in legal fees. If you have any kind of professional license you may lose it. If you have a job you almost certainly will lose it. If you have a wif or girlfriend or kids or friends you may lose all of them.
3. And and on...
Violence is an absolute last resort for people who are not creative or smart enough to figure out other solutions.
don't be that guy.10 Reply- 729 opinions shared on Other topic.
+1 yIn self defense situations absolutely. As others have said you need to stop the threat. Don’t be offensively violent and try to deescalate when you can.

+1 ysometimes it is, but much more powerful to use words. some people only respond to violence for they are emotionally sick.
13 Reply- +1 y
What if your words get you killed cause the other person chose to act instead? Lol
- +1 y
It's a risk. I've never had this problem. Genreally speaking, everyone I've dealt with so far... when you engage them with compassion as a human being, they respond well. The ones I thought were more risky, I avoided.
There's always that one that is not going to comply. Then I wish I had a gun, cause I'm not gonna win a fight anymore. and I have to use the name of Christ and his power... until I die.
I've had this scneario on a train... dude was drugged up and messing with me. I was patient and he never hurt me. My alpha male friends dealt with him in the most impressive manner I'd ever seen... using words, never touching him, but with power. It worked.
Violence most of the time is not necessary, when one has a good working brain and heart for mankind.
I'd say the same about Russia/Ukraine... that mess, was avoidable... probably. ALL of these issues... are emotional issues. think about it... I learned this from the Bible, of all places and observing.
Yes, words can get a person killed... good point, communication is not just verbal. Ex... just acting "japanese" to someone... talking slowly, bowing, respectful gestures, honor can avoid conflict. But when humans get into their "stress" brain... it takes skills to handle, and we don't all have them, all the time... fight/flight/freeze being what it is.

No arguments here lol
1.8K opinions shared on Other topic. Sometimes violence is the only answer or the only thing that will stop some people. Like if somebody is punching you in the face or trying to kill you, you don't just stand there and say "please stop". That doesn't work. If a guy is attacking a woman, he needs to get his teeth kicked out so he knows that is unacceptable behavior. If he's trying to rape or kill her, he just needs to die.
10 ReplyYes, if you are in danger please fight back. your safety always comes first.
21 Reply- +1 y
Completely agree, likewise
2.8K opinions shared on Other topic. Most of the time keeping your head and using logic. That may include self defense. But violence is an emotional response which is why we like action movies.
But ask any self defense expert and it’s about getting away, not causing death or injury (unless you have to). And tbh, guns are the LEAST safe for defense.10 Reply
