+1 y"Are you an honest person?" It's a given no one is honest. If the question was "Are you honest 100% of the time", then maybe some people would answer differently. But people lie and some do such a good job at it that it sounds like the truth.
Another one people lie on is when people get into masturbation. Everyone has hormones and urges because the body causes changes. I had a friend once who swore up and down she never masturbated. A while later she was talking about how she didn't orgasm from sex, but she knew what one felt like. How would she know if she never touched her? This goes back to the honesty questions. A person could very well say they're no comfortable answering a question, rather than lie, though with the masturbation question, that would only make it look more obvious, lol
I'm the last person you want to say you don't do something and then do it because unlike a lot of other people, I'm more of a listening than a talker and I will know if a story has unbalanced facts! I'm a writer. My hobby depends on facts!
11 Reply- +1 y
Oh ya doesn’t the saying go something like ; there are two kinds of people in the world, those that admit to masturbating and liars.
Yep I masturbate. Most people do and people will lie out of guilt or shame when asked.
I also agree that no one is 100% honest. Everyone lies and most children start to explore lies as early as 2 or 3 years old. That being said when asked I’ll say I am an honest person because the bar isn’t meant to be 100% honesty it’s meant to be not purposefully attempting to lie.
Interestingly regarding the word honesty I used to observe girls and them complaining that they wanted an honest man. Initially my thoughts were they wanted a guy who didn’t lie; but I learned that’s not quite it. While many don’t want their man to lie to them they are ok with him lying to others if it’s justified. Also through research I found honesty has roots in loyalty. So many actually want a man who is loyal to them and doesn’t cheat.. which made more sense as guys also want an honest woman.
Since you are a writer I wanted to provide you with a longer and more thorough response based on your answer here. I agree that some have become good at lying almost as a skill : see politicians :)

C. who are conservative won't admit face to face they're conservative because they haven't lived in CA to know personally what it's like there educationally, socially and culturally among 30 different nationalities in San Francisco. They think it's all RuPaul and Homeless poo a foot deep on every block. It's easier to just not go and assume you know all about it from CNN 20 second sound bites and a local preacher. Liberals in places like Boulder, Co are SCARED CRAPLESS to be anywhere near minority heavy areas-that are full of the very kind of people they claim to have so much "love" translation (pity) for. Detroit, Baltimore, Miami, New Orleans, Cleveland, etc. But they know if they admit that, they won't get public brownie points for loosely supporting BLM and every other 5 min movement that comes along. There is NO WAY they're sacrificing that condo, their poodle, organic gluten free food, expensive iPhone, tech bro hubby, lattes and Prius' to go live side by side in Oliver (Baltimore) with the very people they claim to have so much love for-but want at least 1,000 miles away from them.

Opinion Owner+1 yI live here now. Higher population as Memphis. 2021...52 murders. Memphis? 330. Plus they have an infrastructure and public education system that's straight out of the 1870's. Culturally it's just Black, "White boy" and "Some Mexican looking dudes." Not to mention Tennessee has the highest violent crime rate as a state in the nation. But when you have Evangelical megachurches who back local politicians... the media praises your "American values." The TL is 1 district, and yes, it's not good. But the Outer Richmond/Sunset, Greenwich, Marina, China Beach, Lakeview, West Portal, etc... are all the opposite. They're also majority Asian, and they don't seek publicity. You can't even understand half the people in a place like Memphis, they think "bitch ass ho" qualifies as English. And that's why they have 330 murders a year and an infrastructure straight out of the 1800's. I've spent time there on a few occasions. And Nashville, and Cookeville.

I have seen Memphis in the past 5 years and agree. I also have seen their murders on The First 48 Hours. I also avoided SF on a trip last month as it’s just not where I want to go on a vacation although in the past I had a great time there including Chinatown which was a favorite of mine. It’s imploding now. Stores, tourists, hotels… they are leaving. Many of the wealthy are starting to move to London. Remote work is hurting the city as well since people don’t want to go there. Until their politics change, they will go downward. Few cities can come back from that but I think SF could. Philly, Baltimore, Detroit and even Chicago can’t. NYC can but the list is short. It will take hitting rock bottom like NYC and Miami did before it will turn around.
Opinion Owner+1 y
Oh, it's true... this is a city of extremes now. You're either on the fast track to wealth, or on the street. It's NOT a place for middle ground. I came here from a few months in Huntington, W. Va, and that ENTIRE TOWN is a third world zombie apocalypse. I came back here because the hustle and bustle can make you a lot of bank in a short time, courtesy of the amount of people here who have a lot of capital. After a year here, I'll be able to put a down payment on a house-in Salt Lake City, which is my favorite place for getting bang for my buck with great scenery. San Francisco isn't for average Joe guy. The hippie days are over.- +1 y
That why it's funny when they start sending the minorities they pretend to love to live with them like they did to Martha's vineyard. Everyone I known are deeply suspicious of liberals.

If he's asking, he thinks you're speeding. I always tell them I was just following the flow of traffic because that phrase is right out of the dmv handbook 😂
- +1 y
If that works for you. My understanding is if it’s 55 mph and you go 57, they can pull you over
- +1 y
You don't say it because you're trying to convince him (even though ideally, you want him to think that's why you're saying it) you're saying it because it's a nothing answer that doesn't incriminate yourself in case he doesn't really have your speed and he's trying to get you to admit to speeding.
Sometimes the gun doesn't catch you speeding or the validity of the reading can be called into question. This happens more than you might think. Never admitting anything also makes going to trial more of a headache for a prosecutor and they will often cut you a better plea deal or drop the case if you make proving the case harder for them.
