How can people tell if you're high or low status?

You mean based purely on appearances? Stereotypes? That’s what close-minded folks do, my grandparents live in a binary where you’re one or the other and it’s always hurtful how angry they get over petty things like tattoos, or hair color, or whether or not a person is white. See I was always taught that what determines status is your level of education.

That was drilled into my head since the time I was a child.

Now I'm confused about how people determine status as your education is not listed on your forehead.

I don't think it can be accurately determined just by looking at someone.
Elon Musk has a higher SE status than every single one of us, but we know who he is.

I definitely don't think education is a lone factor. It can be A factor in some cases, but not all
