That would just delay the problem of young drivers to an older age; instead of teenagers having a higher than average accident rate, it would be 20 year olds. It's just a given that it takes a while for someone to get good at something, and that includes driving. Allowing people to drive at 16 (with restrictions) allows them to learn to drive and get experience... so that, in the end, they are safer drivers.

Please note that many people learn to drive in driver education classes in high school, and raising the age to 21 would prevent that worthwhile learning experience.

It would be nice if it was possible. But since all our cities are set up for cars, that means having a job is dependent on one. It'd be nice if cars freed us instead of trapped us.

personally i think 16 is just way too young. even 15 for a permit is so freaking young. i got my drivers license when i was 18. so that'd be a good age.

I am going to turn the tables and say there needs to be a maximum age for not being able to drive.

I see where you're coming from, but age alone is not a good criterion. Some 30 year olds are horrible drivers while so e 80 year olds are excellent drivers. Indtead, how about requiring all drivers to pass a simple road test every 5 years, in order to renew their license?

That would be great if everyone was able to use mass transit. But what would the 16 to 21 year olds do if they lived out in the boondocks without mass transportation. Especially, if they were wanting to work and responsible. How would they get to work?
I drove tractors on the roads around the farm at twelve. Got a job that was 14 miles from home at 18. By 21, I had three years experience at the job that I retired from 41 years later.
Granted. Not everyone on the roads should be there. Sometimes I wonder which Cracker Jack Box they got theirs from.

For some it should be but not most, I started at 16 , went to driver’s education at 17 and had my full license by then but not everyone chooses that route or can. It’s 18 to drive with a full license here if you don’t do it that way and it’s 21 for a class A CDL also anyway

No. But if that were done, then the age to vote, age to join the military, and age to sign a binding contract should also be raised.

The older people are when they get thier license the less experience they have and when you are younger you can retain more info
