I never loan money out without being sure I won’t miss the money because I know the likelihood of it being paid back is slim. For example I loaned my sister $3k 2 years ago for school. She still hasn’t paid it back and has borrowed money from others and our mom who she prioritized paying them first. But I went into it with the expectation that I’ll never see that money again

No, but I imagine you could sue or place a lein on the estate for what you commissioned. Alternatively, whoever is taking over for their business could fulfill the order assuming it wasn't a sole proprietorship
