As for lake houses... about 80% of British airway pilots 10-20 years ago bought beachside houses and entire villa houses in Portugal, Spain & Italy so they gotta be rolling in money then.

There's only a handful of car snobs that can call themselves rich & they buy EXPENSIVE cars (1.5 million & up) that make Bentleys & Rolls look like a $5,000 used Toyotas in comparison.

Most hospitals will charge you extra service fees for processing a full payment like you're buying burgers.

"We just had Wagyu last night, do we really have to have it again tonight?" -- seeing as you can buy Wagyu beef for less than a roast beef in some grocery stores that's a real good indication of wealth. Only certain wagyu is expensive. Real wealth is eating high quality russian cavier like Strottarga Bianco at 120,000 per kilogram or quality bluefin tuna which can sell for more than a million.

The fourth is that Wagyu beef is the most expensive beef in the world. To just casually have it two days in a row, is not a thing if you're not rich.

The car one and the hospital one, seriously. There are people who really can drop 100 dollar tips to people like it's nothing, but for the other it can make their whole month.

A big part of Ferrari's profits come from customizations, and they have LOTS of expense options to choose from. But they insist on tasteful combinations - for example, you cannot get a Ferrari in Barbie pink for any amount of money, and if you buy a new one and paint it (or wrap it, etc.) they will usually cut you off so you can never buy another (new) one. Ferrari takes their brand image incredibly seriously. They aren't afraid to be exclusive - demand far outstrips supply.

Ferrari is quite interesting. Let's say they come out with a new V12 model, and you can afford to buy it. You go to the dealer, prepared to write a check. "Nope, sorry, can't sell to you." Why? Because they don't know you. You'll either need to buy a new Maserati or a used Ferrari or two, and you'll have to take them to that dealer to maintain them, to build a relationship first. THEN you'll be permitted to buy a new Ferrari - but only one of the lesser models. They'll see how you use and maintain it (Do you go to the Ferrari track days and meets? Do you take the driver's courses they offer? Do you act appropriately, and do you take excellent care of your cars? If not, then no car for you.) and then, if they are pleased with what they see, THEN they'll allow you to buy one of the more desirable models.

Want to bypass this wait time? There's only one way to do so: order one of every production model, and customize them all ($$$$$). If you can write THAT kind of check, then you can go to the front of the line - but few can write that kind of check, or are willing to.

But Ferrari has much more demand than they can produce, and this allows them to be very selective on whose money they choose to take to get a car.

Wagyu beef is a combination of breeding and treatment - the cows are fed well but get limited exercise, which increase fat retention, and they've selectively bred the ones that had the best fat distribution, so that the meat is heavily marbled with fat. This makes the steaks extra juicy and tender.

We do something similar with veal - calves are kept in crates their entire short lives to keep them from exercising.

It's not about what you say... it's about what you DON'T. I grew up in a very well off family... owns the largest family owned business in the state of Oregon. Brother graduated from West Point. By age 13 I'd been to N. Y., Hawaii, Paris and Tunis. Played national juniors tennis. Every year, our family Thanksgiving dinner was held in the ballroom of the Downtown Athletic Club in Portland-the 2nd largest athletic club on the West Coast. I've come across MANY people traveling across the country who wear fake bling (or even real bling), new Jordans, designer knock off gear, etc. They don't get it... people that are well off become that way by NOT advertising it. They don't showcase 50K in jewelry if they're upper class. They don't wave bottles around clubs with "big booty hoes." Guys that grew up poor in the ghetto do that. They don't use ebonics. "Bitch ass ho," is NOT used by the upper classes. Doing these things-no matter HOW MANY $100 bills you pull out of your pocket at that moment-only signifies that you didn't grow up upper class, and your kids don't go to Stanford or Vanderbilt obviously.😏

There was an interesting article where some lottery winners that became instant millionaires, thus traveling abroad consistently... were interviewed and expressed shock at how the truly wealthy they'd met in various adventures sneered at them, ignored them and virtually froze them out. They were shocked by that. They shouldn't have been. Generationally wealthy people can EASILY tell when someone doesn't have the manners, speech pattern, educational background and work ethic that matches whatever their current financial status may be. Trying to sugarcoat it by wearing an expensive watch or new shoes or pulling cash out to pay for an overpriced meal only fools people from the ghetto, because they've never been around the truly wealthy. Fake rich is a BIG thing in the USA... because the culture here teaches that if you're not trying to accrue a bunch of possessions, you're not a human being worthy of basic courtesy.

10 years is just insane to me. The only other ridiculous thing I've heard in this vein is the Ferrari F1 club, where the super rich can "buy" a former F1 car which they are able to drive at specific times a year, but you're on a wait list for years to able to do it, and for the millions you pay, you don't actually get to keep the car, it stays with the company, and you have to pay millions to just maintain it through the year.
