Those things startle me! Cobras, coral snakes, rattle snakes. Urgh
2.8K opinions shared on Other topic. Nope. I had pet snakes as a kid. I love them.
I'm in California, so the only dangerous snakes we have here are rattlers. I wouldn't be happy if there were other kinds of venomous snakes.
Now that I live on some acreage in the western Sierra Nevada foothills, my wife and I occasionally run across a rattle snake in our garden.
The species we have here isn't very large and they are not aggressive. I like them. They do good work keeping the vermin population under control and they have no desire to bite anything they don't plan to eat. They don't lie in ambush, and they don't chase you. In fact, if given half a chance, they will disappear.
And they usually have the courtesy to warn you if you get too close for comfort. I've been warned a couple of times.
I just don't want to accidentally get too close and get bitten. So, when I come across one, I catch it, put it in a box, and relocate it away from the house. I have a stick with a trigger on the handle that closes jaws on the other end for catching snakes.
I have found other kinds of snakes in my yard, including California kings, garter snakes, racers and, most commonly, gopher snakes. None of those snakes will bite. And if they did, they couldn't even bite hard enough to break the skin. Snakes are quite docile.
I have even found gopher snakes sunning themselves on nearby roads and brought them back to our garden.
The first time I brought one home, I was excited. I was holding it's body with it wrapped around my arm. I called my wife outside to show her. She was unfamiliar with snakes, so I had her touch it to see that it wasn't cold or slimy. Then I held it's face up close to her cheek and it gave her a snakey kiss with its tongue. I said "Awww, it loves you."
She was a bit creeped out but decided that snakes aren't scary.
Now she can recognize rattlers and calls me if she sees one snoozing in the garden.
One time, I stepped off of the last step of our front porch and heard a loud hiss right behind me. I jumped 10 feet. When I turned around, I saw an adolescent gopher snaked coiled in a striking pose like a rattler. It was taking deep breaths, inflating its body, and exhaling in long, loud hisses. I had never heard a snake hiss before except on TV. I wondered what his problem was. Then I saw one of my cats and realized that it had cornered the snake. The snake was scared to death, and for good reason.
I reached down to pick it up and it struck at me. That happened a couple of times. I finally crooked my finger and held it out. The little brat struck at it and held on.
It didn't hurt. Alligator lizards can pinch harder than gopher snakes.
While it was occupied chewing on my knuckle, I picked it up. It relaxed and let go of me. I carried it to a safe place in the garden.23 Reply- +1 y
Is there anti-venom for rattlers? Aside from the venom some snakes have hitting power. Saw a video on milking snakes and a snake had got so pissed off it had cracked the glass door of it's cage from it's strike.
All snakes in my state of Australia are venomous. So I don't share your fondness for them. However there are three species whose venom hasn't caused any known fatality - but they are fairly uncommon. . - +1 y
@RavVid. There is anti-venom for rattlers. And different rattle snake species have different venom.
I said that I'm glad we only have one venomous species here where I live.
All the different venomous snakes in Australia and Asia would make me very nervous. I wouldn't even be happy to live in parts of the U. S. that have copper heads, water moccasins and coral snakes.
At least rattle snakes usually give you a warning when you get too close.

+1 ysnakes are scammers in the Bible but snake as animal i am scared of their eyes i imagine the movie anaconda. there are cute looking snakes though. I don't know i usually easily feel pity towards any animals. i watched yt videos about certain snakes and i remember feeling pity and finding them cute even the big ones but when i remember the movie anaconda i do not like their eyes. the eyes of dinosaurs are better because they just look grumpy and hot-headed snakes though it feels like you are falling in a deep hole but Satan though who take the look of a snake is someone the Saints would wrestle do maybe he is not that powerful maybe God doesn't allow him to be powerful when dealing with humans but in another dimension he is probably tough. good angels vs dark angels but as humans are problem is more on pur faith. there's a movie line i like "not believing in God didn't work for her so she now believe in God" i think that's a good start. gosh i teally have to insert God in every comment i make 😂😂😂😭😭😭😭

About 6 feet long, she was a sweetheart. Let me pick her up and she clung to my arm (constrictor family). 10 Reply
+1 yFairness, now- the rattle of a rattlesnake is it attempting to warn you, so it can get away with NOT biting you. That's VERY forward thinking and thoughtful, which is something I like in a snake. Bear in mind that, being a snake, they're deaf, so it's even more courteous than it would be from another animal.
30 Reply748 opinions shared on Other topic. Nope I like them. Just give them space and respect them. If youโre out hiking always be vigilant of your surroundings. A snake doesnโt want to hurt a human weโre not theyโre prey but if we were to get too close and make them feel threatened it makes sense that theyโll defend themselves. I personally love the little danger noodles and regularly pet sit my friends snakes

Don't like them and yes I think you should be afraid enough to make sure you don't step on one in the bush. That has almost happened climbing over a fence.20 Reply
Anonymous(30-35)+1 yNah, I like snakes. I grew up catching and selling them to a pet store. I had a pet boa for six years. Had to sell it before I left to uni. Snakes are cool if you understand them.
Or, and rattlesnakes taste like chicken.

00 ReplyI used to have snakes as pets when I was a teenager. They are easy to take care of. Low maintenance and as long as they are not too big they won't swallow you. 🤣🐍

@travelingmaaike. Very venomous and aggressive. The ones you listed are venomous. But not aggressive. For reasons of protection yes they are. Water-moccasins will attack you. I live in an area that has them.
- +1 y
@mansearching not really. They can be opportunistic same as any predator. But by man eater I mean they go out of their way to target humans which they don't.

@HelpfulWoman In that way, you're right. They don't.
