more of a poll question , but yeah if you don't have a tattoo and wanted one , what was holding you back from actually getting one done
If you don't have a tattoo what is the reason holding you back from getting one?

more of a poll question , but yeah if you don't have a tattoo and wanted one , what was holding you back from actually getting one done
What kind of question is this?
You word it as it NOT having the tattoo is some odd thing and it needs to be explained when it is the other way around. Why DID YOU get a tattoo.
Being born and living your life in your natural body is the default. Your body looks the way it naturally looks. (weight lifting, being fit vs fat, aside).
Paying a human to inject needles into your flesh and to pump factory, manmade dyes into your skin forever marking a person's body for life with green inks... that is where the question should lie. Why did you choose to mark yourself.
You word it as it all humans naturally get ink via life and it is an anomaly that has to be explained if a person's natural skin doesn't end up inked.
But, to answer, I think they are ugly. I would never do something permanent to my body like that. I think it is another piece of evidence of how broken society is now that hoards of 20 year olds rush off to scar themselves for life with this stuff.
Feminism hits in the late 60's. birth control comes out. The sexual revolution hits in the 70's. Sex is free, screw around all you want, no consequences. All is good. No fault divorce is initiated. Divorce rates skyrocket. Abortions go up. Sex diseases skyrocket. Tons of kids grow up in broken fatherless homes. Endless studies show kids without fathers show huge upticks in crime, gang participation, going to jail, dropping out of school, promiscuous daughters, more apt to be strippers and sex workers, tons of people have mental issues now, tons of people believe they are actually a different sex/gender than they are, I have a penis, a beard, balls and sperm, a deep voice and hairy chest... but I am a woman, guns have been around forever but suddenly tons of people commit these mass shooting suicide crimes, the youth pierce themselves everywhere and are covered in tattoos.
Pagan stuff, headhunters used to do on savage islands are now considered cool, attractive, normal. Inked from head to toe and pierced in every conceivable place.
Yeah, civilization is rotting. The obsession of the youth in this ugly practice is just one
I haven't gotten any because I didn't really see any designs that I wanted badly enough to spend the kind of money I would need to to get them done properly (I was basically earning shit for pay for my entire twenties, so it was a question of how much the ink would cost vs how much I had to spend on anything at all, let alone something I didn't have to). I was also kinda worried about my career prospects, and I didn't know how having a tattoo would impact all that. At that time, I was trying to become a Journalist, but now that I've finished law school; I look around and basically see a bunch of tatted up lawyers who couldn't care less...
Funny how that works, isn't it? You work your ass off to try and keep everything looking clean, only to get in with the cool kids club and figure out that your ideas about professionalism aren't shared by the people there.
I've said it more than once, that too many tattoos look like graffiti to me, or in some cases like the pages of a comic book. Especially when I see this kind of stuff.
All of these people are Harvard grads. Facial tats are a sign of high intelligence. In fact the more they have the smarter they are.
DEFINITELY can be OVERDONE!
@Exterminatore THAT I find very hard to believe. To me it is a sign of the opposite. Some people would love to have the clear skin these people cover up, like people with eczema, psoriasis, acne, or a port wine birthmark. I think it takes more brains not to defile your body with graffiti. Anyone with a few extra thousand dollars can get a tattoo, or much cheaper ones that show their cheapness.

Perhaps my humor was a bit dry, but that was a joke.
@Exterminatore Crap! And I always say people don't get it when I make a joke. That's one for you. 👍
😂 😂😂
Pregnancy and breastfeeding is holding me back. I want one just for the sake of the experience.
I'd want something like a kyile Jenner tattoo. Just dainty and cute
Like you!
I speak the Truth!
Nothing dainty and cute about Kylie. 😫😖
Well at least it's on her ankle and not there is your face. :)

what initially held me back was the commitment to them.
i started working on my sleeve at 30, i work on an idea for 2 years and then get it done. i have been an artist since i was a kid and draw up my own designs. while there can be good and bad tattoos, real art cannot be denied. i work in healthcare and it never interferes with my job but normally becomes a conversation opener with patients.
I don’t like seeing that shit as a patient.
As if you are working on code blues on the regular. I’m a customer. Threatening me with my own life is unbecoming. The tells me you were more concerned with your superficial appearance than your abilities. So, I’ll just request another doctor. This boon in medical care that you are profiting from won’t last forever. They lowered the bar pretty damn low to fill a growing demand. 30 years ago, people like you WERE most often the patients. Still are. Showing tattoos was and still is unprofessional in my book. “Do no harm” for a vain purpose.
again that's your problem. where did i threaten anyone? i said when im pumping on someone's chest they could care less. as i stated. im a resident. healthcare hasn't lowered the bar at all, im one of the youngest residents on the floor, you know what that means princess? i had the know all and work ethic and grades to achieve it. you are clearly uneducated on how the ER works, smh
you pseudo intellectuals are really so sad
@love_conquers_lust sup troll? you another alt? ill just report your ass. mmhmmm
@love_conquers_lust lets be real you probably making all this shit up...
@Still-alive he sits in his mom basement of course he is
I think tattoos are just a stupid fad. People get them just to get them, and then have to decide what stupid design to get.
I think they look like graffiti or the kind of doodles one would make in a notebook. And on women, they look like vandalism.
Some aren't stupid. I'd love to get a strawberry in memory of my Mom, she's been gone three years.
Besides, people can do whatever the fuck they want, including women.
@CrimsonAngel09 Cool that you want to remember your mom in that way. I lost my mom last year. Was your mom into strawberries?
I don't care about your preference in women, I couldn't care less as my reply has nothing to do with gender or personal preference, but about projection as there's absolutely no reason for you to belittle a practice just because you choose not to participate in it.
Tattooing has been practiced all over the globe in many different cultures, and the oldest discovery of tattooed human skin was actually found in Europe, dating to 3370-3100 BC. Yes, I looked it up to get precise numbers. You're welcome.
@Ninania. I'll criticize anyone or anything I want. You can call it "belittling" or "shaming" if you choose, even though that's a pretty snowflakey attitude. 😢
Bottom line, the widespread popularity of tattoos is a recent fad in Western culture.
"Millennials (1981-1996) are currently the most tattooed generation. In 2021, 12% of millennials reported having one tattoo, and 29% said they have multiple."
No wonder why the two women who objected to my comment are a certain age and act like tattoos are not only super bitchen, but traditional.
Go ahead and deface your skin. And get some more piercings while your at it. I don't care what you do.
And then when they start to fade, or the person gets tired of them, they try to have them removed. But most often the skin where they were removed will always be a lighter color, especially when the rest of the body tans and those spots are quite obvious because they no longer will tan.
Wow, a lot of boring people on GAG.
I'd love to have one, a strawberry to represent my Mom. Just trying to find a good artist, and a good time to go and get one.
Many South Pacific culture's have no real written language per say. They use tattoos to tell their history their battles family lineage and, in some cases, how many heads taken and to strike fear into their enemy. The real hiccups in the modern world is there is no eraser so after a bender you wake up with FUCK YOU tattooed across your forehead you are fucked
Not a fan of needles nor permanent markings. I think the artwork looks better on a canvas or skateboard rather than a body
Nah, just never have been into them, not for me. I find myself wondering what people with sleeve and large area tats will think of them when they reach 70 or 80. Will they regret it? Still think it's beautiful? Who knows.
@Apple1996 Good Gawd lol
The amount of time and work that goes into a tattoo, making permanent, living art, is fucking expensive (as it should be) and my ass is broke lol
I want to get a phoenix and maybe a hourglass, but only when I feep like I've fully healed and I don't think I'm quite there yet
It's simply not my thing.
However, I'd give a compliment to people if the tattoo (s) they're sporting is worth my time to admire.
Is it going to hurt so much that maybe I cry because that would be embarrassing, then they're permanent and I've heard the tattoo removal process is painful to say the least, also what if it looks good now but when I get old it winds up looking like well, you know, and lastly I just can't decide on what to get..
All legitimate concerns
Have seen many fine artistry but have never seen any I'd want to 'wear' for a lifetime! Things that I have strong attachment MY BEHAVIOR already advertises! Don't NEED a conversation starter.
I think they're overdone and skin is far more attractive than ink.
I'm pretty ugly, so makes no difference to me.
@CrimsonAngel09 We're not talking about your face. We're talking about your skin. Most humans have nice skin, unless they don't wash regularly. I see no reason to load up on tats that will fade, become blurry and won't look good later in life. Plus it's an expensive habit.
i dont want one/dont like needles/dont think they look good/just ruins your skin/drs orders i can't do injections like that incase i get infections
Pain. Permanent. Other options to get a tattoo. <3
Which I have done before, it felt real good and worth the money.
Don’t like, never like on me or on anyone. I don’t have any. I don’t see the purpose aside from … it’s a trend and attention seeking.
I have sensitive skin and its not my style..
I have two reasons one I don't like being in pain and I've heard tattoos are really painful and two their really expensive
price and risk i might regret my selection. so i got cheap temporary ones
There hasn't been a tattoo in my family in right around 70 years.
I have thought about this a while ago but could not decide on what I wanted. Everything seemed so lame and superficial. Besides I don;t like needles.
