Why is weed illegal if it’s known for good health benefits?

When the ability to make paper from tree pulp was invented, William Randolph Hurst saw a chance to cash in on that new technology by villainizing hemp, which was used to make paper previously. In doing so, he practically monopolized the paper industry.
So he and his henchmen, including hyper-racist, Harry Anslinger, promoted the Mexican-sounding word, marijuana, and associated marijuana use with blacks, Mexicans, degeneracy, and the corruption of good, "white", American youth.
If you watch the movie Reefer Madness, you can see the level of propaganda.
Hemp became illegal in 1937. Coincidentally, nylon (a petroleum product) was also invented in the late 1930s and came to be used for making rope, cloth, and other things that had previously been made from hemp. So farmers lost a valuable crop and industrialists made gigantic profits.
Criminalizing marijuana (hemp) also made it possible to go after African Americans and other minorities.
There is a quote from Abraham Lincoln in which he said his favorite thing to do was to sit on his front porch, smoke "sweet hemp" and play his harmonica.
I haven't the slightest clue. Even though I don't smoke or consume weed at all (I'm not against it in any way, it's just not my thing), ever since Canada legalized it in October of 2018 I was hoping there would be a ton of research into the benefits of the different compounds in weed. However, as far as I know, no significant research has been done in regards to it, unless there have been university medical studies about it or something. I think there's a lot of potential there, but there is no funding for it. But perhaps the big pharmaceutical companies want it that way. I just think it's really disappointing. Canada could be a leader in marijuana research, but not a damn thing has been accomplished in the 5 years it's been legalized.
Watch The Grass Is Greener on Netflix. It is a great look at the true reason behind Ronald Reagan's Racist War on Drugs.
Basically, one old white conservative American decades ago decided he hated Jews, Mexicans, and Black people enough to demonize them as druggies. It coincided with needing to feed the US Military Industrial complex and encourage war in Vietnam, so he used it to also target anti-war activists.
Research the history of weed and the War on Drugs, it's fascinting. Raegan and the GOP destroyed decades of scientific study and hampered progress for decades because of racist policies masquerading as "drug prevention" (which, like the prohibition, didn't actually work).
Wow, this is one of the most ignorant, clueless letters I've ever seen. There was a "war on drugs" well before Reagan was president. And by the way, he was elected president 7 years AFTER the end of US involvement in Vietnam. The reason Reagan ramped things up was because the black intercity community was being decimated by hard drug use and violence. And in the 1970's and 1980's, the penalties for weed were being greatly REDUCED, though for other drugs they were stiffened.
Please don't answer questions when you don't know what you are talking about.
CBD oil is derived from the cannabis plant. People report using this oil for relief from pain, anxiety, depression, and sleep disorders. But grass itself is liked for the euphoric high it produces. Unfortunately, that is the bad side of weed.
There is limited evidence from human studies to support the benefits of CBD oil, due to restrictions on the use of and research on cannabis. As cannabis is becoming legalized in various regions, research is gaining momentum and shows some promising results.

The oinformation flow is heavily biased by the attitudes of the one conveying the information. Many people think that marijuana is a gateway drug that leads to many worse alternatives.
Because the government doesn’t benefit from legalising it. It doesn’t cause health problems like alcohol and tobacco does, so there’s not as much money in it. The government benefits off of people destroying themselves and paying hundreds-thousands for medical help. That’s my thoughts on it anyway.
Oh, but governments DO benefit from legalizing it in other ways! 🙂 They tax it like tobacco and alcohol, just like they have here in Canada. It just becomes another taxable commodity that is a source of revenue. Not only that, but the money saved from not having to jail people for stupid weed possession, growing and trafficking charges, as well as policing and tying up the judicial system, is money saved as well.
However, at least in the case of the U. S., many American jails are privately owned and a for-profit, so there is little incentive for legalizing weed because there are SO many marijuana possession, growing, trafficking charges, etc. every year that put people in jail, which keeps that entire system going. Not to mention big pharmaceutical companies as well who have lobbyists in government to keep politicians in line with their interests. Same goes for the private prison system.
But then bought-and-paid-for (and/or uneducated) politicians also use scare tactics and tell people that if they legalize weed that it's a "gateway" into more extreme drug use, that more kids will get hooked on it, that workplace productivity will fall off a cliff, that weed-impaired driving will become rampant, etc. But now that it's been legal in Canada for 5 years, what has happened? Absolutely nothing! Nothing has changed! lol No statistic has changed whatsoever, and all the things people were doing before, people just continued doing once it became legal. The only thing that changed is that we no longer have to pay for literally thousands of people going to jail every year due to stupid, petty possession, growing and trafficking laws, as well as needlessly tying up the judicial system, which has literally saved all levels of government millions of dollars so far...
... The whole argument against weed is a myth perpetuated by people who are either not educated on the subject, or who have underlying interests in demonizing weed and keeping it illegal for their own financial interests. Even as someone who has never smoked or consumed a single gram of weed in my entire life, I never understood the argument against it, and literally every fear and scare tactic people have used in regards to legalizing weed has been proven 100% wrong since it became legal here.
I think it's just going to take time for governments to change over time. But the more and more other states and surrounding countries that legalize it, the more these myths will become obliterated into the trash heap of history where it belongs.
"known for good health benefits". that's stoner enthusiast propaganda.
fact is that there is "some" health benefits and some actually good medical uses specially in conection to pain treatment.
whatever "benefits" there may be do not at all outweigh the masive disadvantage of "inhaling smoke" and the very clear science on negative psychological effects of this drug. like it's so bad that you can see the prevalence of psychosis go up drastically in a state that newly legalized the use.
like if you wanna know the reality of weed consumption, don't talk to the people who're actively taking it. talk to the ones who quit.
by the way, i do have a case in my on family of suffering from weed induced schizoaffective disorder
Weed is a drug which intervenes with your nervous system stronger than alcohol. The dosis needed for u to cramp or loose breath is lower with alcohol.
Not every alcohol is made from a rotten fruit. Also alcohol can be used for desinfection.
Everything is poison, nothing is without poison, only the dose makes the poison.
If you’re talking about in America…
There is medicinal value for symptoms from taking chemotherapy or glaucoma but people can get medical marijuana cards if they tell the "doctor" they have anxiety, or insomnia or an ingrown toenail.
People are just getting it to get high. It is a scam. Besides , inhaling the smoke from burning plant matter is never good for your lungs.
I’ve done weed before and greening out is no joke.
It’s non-lethal, but it doesn’t take much to overdose on weed.
Anyway, its a nasty substance that should generally be avoided unless done for medical reasons approved by a doctor.
Just think about the majority of people who tend to be stoners. How are they faring in life?
Does legalization really tend to be good for society?
Its legal in a bunch of places.
It doesn't have any health benefits, and is instead bad for your health.
It smells bad.
Alcohol is also bad for health.
I see so many people saying x drug is better than x other drug so "it's ok".
Stop using drugs. If you want health benefits, thats what food and water are for.
Weed makes people slow and stupid. What health benefit is that? I never met a fast person who smokes Weed, I never met a person who isn't slow who smokes Weed. I seen alotta people smoke and I notice their all slow and some of their minds are completely warped. If anything Weed keeps people in the same position, I know they're rich people who smoke weed but they're rich. I never met a rich person without talent who got rich by smoking weed.
1 week before weed was legalized, I asked some joints to my brother, went to the pub with my best friend, called all the people on my table and we enjoyed it together.
I have smoked weed on few occasions. I think I am fine.
The reason why Marijuana is illegal in the US is because Dupont wanted to sell nylon to the military. Military shot it down because they used hemp fabric. So Dupont started a smear campaign and eventually got it scheduled.

If cannabis keeps you healthier, then pharma will make less profits.
These profits are partly needed to fund election campaigns of certain politicians.
Because hemp got in the way of various capitalist industries and weed is a variety of hemp
Because it can intoxicate easily, and it’s very easy to 2nd hand intoxicate others unwilling
Meddling statists like to control what adults do, even if the actions do not include the violation of the person or property of another.
Because it's hard for the government to tax and control something people can grow in their backyard and sell without a store
I live in California and it isn't illegal here. If you are over 18 you can walk in off the street and buy it.
Because big pharma haven't put their hands completely on it, yet.
Because it's an evil plant that doesn't come in a bottle labeled, Pfizer or Bristol-Myers Sqiubb on it.
What's the point of replying?
