When was the last time you had to change a flat tire?

I think it was over 20 years ago. I have not had a flat in a long time. I recently picked up a nail and had a slow leak so I was able to bring my truck to the tire place and have it fixed.

With me, it's Murphy's law that brand new tires will pick up bolts fast. Like the thick rubber sucks the bolt or big screw right into the tire. I am convinced of this, because every darn time I would buy car tires this would happen - no matter what State I lived in, so it wasn't an ex boyfriend doing that.

But to answer your question, since I have been single for the last 34 years, and my ex-husband couldn't find his was out of a loaf of bread, he didn't know how.
So, it was evitable that I had to join triple A. At least that guy knows how to put a new tire on and rescue me.

I did learn how when I was a teenager, but never actually did it by myself. Wah😥

It was last fall Like you I picked up a nail. Trouble was the tire shop was so busy changing over to winter tires I was told come back next week. Either that or swap it out for my spare myself & then drop the leaker off to them to fix when they got a chance.

Your sense of timing with this question is excellent. Friday, January 26, my fiancee made a turn too sharp around a corner and she ran over the curb. It tore the sidewall of her tire and it was flat within about a mile. Of course, she called me to rescue her, and I had to put the spare tire on to get her home (despite having injured my back a few days earlier.) The next morning, she drove my car to work while I took her car and bought a new tire (to match the other three which I had purchased in December, 2023!)

It was an all-around painful experience for me!

I am not sure I trust those little bottle jacks that the car manufacturers are supplying. They work okay on a level surface but on a roadside the surface is often uneven and soft. I am amazed that they have not been sued for supplying a product that is clearly unsafe.

She was in a parking lot and I always have a scrap of plywood or 2" x 6" in the trunk, to be used as a base under the jack. This was a scissors jack (Toyota.)

@exitseven I carry a small 3,000 lb. floor jack in my trunk for that very reason. I also have on of those + spinners for removing lug nuts. Those cheap little ones from the manufacturers are garbage.

My rear driver;s side tire is what I call "The Tire from Hell." I have had seven flats from nails or screw in tire. All seven in the same tire, or rather same tire location. The two through the sidewall required replacements This is in less than three years. Last one was January 26 between the treads, but I was able to inflate it and get it to the station to patch. he last one I had to change myself was in October.

Wow, that is a stroke of bad luck. My wife's car always has a slow leak. Every 3 or 4 weeks I have to pump it up. It is always the same tire. The weird part is that this has happened on the last 3 cars she has owned. The tire place can never find the leak. I wonder if it could be the wheel that has a hole in it. Even after I buy a new set of tires the leak persists.

Out on the road, I'm gonna guess about 3-4 times in my entire life. The last time I remember out on the road was in the late 90s. That was the only time I've used one of those mini-spares.

The last one sitting in the driveway was a few years ago. The tire had almost new tread, but I rarely drive and it cracked and leaked due to age.

It was about 5 years ago. It was dark and rainy, and hard to see the road surface. I ended driving over the curb and damaged my rim, which caused the tire to go flat. Fortunately, I was able to pull off into a protected area and change it with my spare. In the next few days, I had my mechanic get a new rim and reinstall the tire, which interestingly was not damaged... and I got my spare back.

I’ve had punctures where I was able to get back to the house and plug it so I wouldn’t need to put the spare on and that was probably a year ago, the last I had to put a spare tire on was maybe 5 years ago, I’m pretty good at changing tires, just changed all my brakes on all four wheels yesterday with just hand tools and a scissor jack on a cement driveway. Used to have better tools where I used to live but they are in storage right now

Two years ago. Was gone for a month and my tire had a pinhole leak. Came back home to find the tire was flat as shit. Had to change it and get it to an auto shop so it could get inflated amd patched. Lucked out that I didn't need a new one.

I hope I never have to, or I'll have to get like one of those memberships where they come and do it for you like a tow truck or a mobile tyre/tire replacer on the side of the road. "Call the guy" isn't that the old Seinfeld phrase. "why didn't you just call the guy" or am I thinking of another tv show.

So long ago that I can't remember. Only a few times after I started driving company cars in 1981.
Before that, I carried decent jacks and lug nut wrenches in my cars.

Since I retired, I just call AAA. I get 4 free service calls a year with my current policy. The jacks and lug nut wrenches in modern cars suck.

@Lliam That depends on where you are at when it goes flat. If you are on a remote part of the interstate, it might be hours before anyone shows up to help. I carry a can of Flat Fix and a bicycle pump in my trunk. I also make sure my spare is aired up regularly.

last summer, I had a flat on my left front tyre on my truck.
Changed it on the side of the road and took it in to get fixed the next day.
My warranty covered it so it didn't cost me anything to have done.
I work on my cars and some friends cars quite often so it is not unusual to be taking tyres on and off.
I also have a hoist in my garage, so that makes it easier to work on stuff.

I've had one for 3 years but have no spare to do it. Last one I changed might've been 30 or 40 years ago.
One evening, we were going to Erie for a gig and got a flat time and I tried to loosen the lug nuts because nobody else could, either and I snapped off two of LUGS! Those nuts just would NOT budge!!
