1 yIt was an "on the job" training when I was a college and I had to work 12 hours a day even more than that at some days and I only have a day for day off so I can finish my 1,000 hours of work so I can finish my work on time before graduation since I got hired late. And wasn't even paid because apparently it's a part of a collage training. That's how on the job training here is supposed to be. I was living with my family that time. I did finish it in time tho. I thought that wasn't too much of a problem before even though it was really exhausting because every student have to undergo that until I realized that it was actually unfair. Now the newer batch are paid for it and they're lucky. That changes was made a year after I graduated which was tough luck.

I mean life here in general is hell compared to the west. Even if you're only working for 8 hours, some people have to deal with 4 hours traffic everyday
- 1 y
what country are you from
wait so were you balancing college work and the on the job training - 1 y
Philippines and no. Most collage students actually live with their parents. If not, most living away from their parents are still sent money for their rent. Renting is quite expensive and pay is very low. $8 a day is like the minimum here. Collage schedules here are also very eratic and they just like to give students a hard time.

The only job training is actually a whole semester, so the whole semester is on work mode.

We aren't supposed to work more than 48 hours with out a day off, but rules aren't to be broken.
If you are short due to illness etc, there isn't much you can do about it.
When the call for service comes in people expect someone to show up.
We have to be out the door in under a minute during the day, 3 minutes at night.12 Reply- 1 y
that's kinda how i ended up working 36 hours but 72 is rough
were you able to sleep some at the station or was it really busy
1 yofficially I shouldn't work more than 6 hours in one go (German labor work)... after 6 hours I should have at least 30 mins break.
But on-calls are paid separately and also are under different rules. So it happened when we had a huge outage, that I worked for 36 consecutive hours... some people who got to know me when I just joined g@g know that I was online in all odd hours :D
in 2002, when I was part of a team launching a new website, we spent a week in the office, sleeping in sleeping bags on the floor and taking care of servers :D

1 yI have some friends working part-time , but I have never worked myself. In Turkey, we don't have the thing called "tuition fee", so people my age usually pursue higher education and do not work. Of course, there are exceptions, but people around me either have an associate's or bachelor's degree. I wish you guys could do that too since most of you start working once you're 18 , and by the time you guys have enough money to study at a college, some will have lost their willingness to go on or will have been too busy with other stuff to give it a whirl.

We would show up at 8pm and the store manager would lock us in the store at night. We would leave the next morning when the manager came. For a while there was a new shopping center being built and we were doing an install in ne of the stores being built. I used to sleep in the van on the way between jobs. I fell asleep in a suspended ceiling once. I made lots of money but I was literally falling sleep on my feet.

1 yAt least 12 hours. Although, not as a job, I've worked on various recording projects longer than that and, 4 years sago, when I was being evicted from my house, I worked at least 70 hours straight!

I had a 3-story house full of my stuff to pack up and get out by a certain date and time and,. if I didn't stick with it, I wasn't gonna be able to grab it all. As it was, I STILL didn't get to grab it all and lots tons of collectible things and family memorabilia!!
2 moYeah, my longest was like 36 too. I worked like 12 hours some years back and a guy had a family emergency and he and I were the only guys that could do our jobs at the time. My boss approached me and was like, we are in a tough spot. Is there any way you could work the night shift today too? I said yes and I worked that. My boss came but the next day during the day shift and he was like, what are you still doing here? I said, well, I have to work my shift. There isn’t anyone to cover me. He thought about it for a couple quick seconds and just said, yeah. I guess you are right. He didn’t say much but the look on his face said it all. He was visibly just like, oh shit. I can’t believe we have you doing this. Each shift was about 10 - 12 hours. I left for a little while early in that night shift so I could go to my college classes and come straight back. But I’ve worked several 24 hour shifts too.

1 yOn the day my vacation was about to start all hell broke loose & my employer required my services & informed me that I was authorized to work as many hours as I wanted. I worked 16 hours that day & 62 days straight after that.

1 yLongest I’ve done on day work was 29 hours. May have done longer stretches when I was on the boat for 2 weeks at a time, but it’s kinda hard to tell when exactly your day starts and ends doing that
