The bleeding usually lasts about 3-5 days
I hear a lot of people call periods “bleed once a month.”
When people say once a month to me it sounds like they are saying it only lasts one day

sounds like you are not fully versed in some nuances of some word definitions. the reason it is called a period is because the term "period" also means some frame of time that "X" happens/occurs. i this case a "period" of time each month when a woman sheds her uterian wall lining and bleeds it out of her reproductive area (her vaginal hole) . it os not unheard of for some women to do all her bleeding in around 24 hours (a day) nor for some to take a week (7 days) or a little more (both are extremes of how much time it could take) but most are within 3 to 5 days (consecutive) each month. instead of what looks to be your mind fixating a bit more on the more common period as used to end sentences which carries an aire of finality to it which often can be percieved as something such as "only once" somewhere between the concious mind and the subconcious mind.
That’s not what they mean, it’s an event that happens once a month
Easter holidays are once a year. The Olympics are once every four years.
also not really heard anyone say bleed once a month, monthlies, periods yes
I've never thought of it that way, but it makes sense.
