Comparing real adult life as it's actually turned out for me, in contrast to what I was expecting as a child, has shown two stark differences, above and beyond all others:

1. quicksand is WAY less of a problem than I was told, and

2. FAR fewer things than I'd expected glow in the dark.

I don't think anyone ever outgrows the stars; I don't think anyone's even survived them.
