Would you have rather lived in the city or the country between the mid 1800s - early 1900s in the US?

I think the city would have been safer given how dangerous the west was during that time. I’ve been watching too many movies that take place in the old west 😅

It’s kinda interesting to think back then the country was more dangerous than the cities but now a days it’s the other way around the cities have become dangerous and the country has become more of a place to escape to.

Those “old west” is not real. Cowboys weren’t sheriffs stopping constant outlaws, they were usually black and hispanic field and livestock workers. There were plenty of brothels in the west, towns sprung up around them, but very few of the movies in the “old west” have any truth to them.

City. Medicine was improving, so I'd be closer to doctors and dentists. More safety from bandits and Native Americans pissed off over losing their land. Less dependant on the weather

I think the cities would have been safer, although they look so terrible with all the grime and smoke in old photographs at least.

I've thought about this very thing many times. I think living in the city, New York or Boston during, as I call it, the cowboy days would have been really cool. There were no cars and things were expanding like railroads, gaslighting and immigrants coming from Europe. Seems exciting.
