What are your thoughts when you see a woman with an afro?

Question

I always straightened my hair in middle school and the majority of high school. I notice though, when I wear my natural hair there are so many looks and comments... questions. What comes to mind when you see an afro? Lol

I gree up in the 1970's and most African Americans sported an afro back then. So I am totally fine with them and it brings back good memories of the old days for me.
Time's were tough during that time. I was in highschool and the desegregation had just started.
There was an all black highschool called Balboa High in San Francisco where I grew up.

The desegregation caused the black people's high school to close down. And of course they were pissed off and I don't blame them at all.
They bussed the black kids to all different high schools in the city. Our school got a lot of them. The white kids welcomed them to our school. We even let them start up their own radio station to play their kind of music during lunch in the cafeteria. They named their radio station Kool.
The black girls did not like the white girls at all. The black girls even had their own drill team that was so cool. I loved watching them practice.
Anyway, no matter what the white girls did to welcome them, they had none of it.
Which leads me back to their afros. They were very big back then. And they liked beating up us white girls. They hid razor blades in their fro's and would cut us up while they were beating us up.
The style for their fro back then was to wear their pick stuck in the fro somewhere and walk around that way. It was the style.

The guys wore fro's or afros too, big and shorter but still plenty of hair.
The biggest problem with people sporting the real big afros was at the movie theater. If we happened to sit behind them we couldn't see the movie because their hair blocked the screen. 😎

I know you didn't ask for all of this information, but since I actually lived through those days I thought I would share some history about the fro's.

I don’t usually think anything unless it’s massively exaggerated in size. Then I just look like woah that big 😂 but. I thing in specific.

I think in general big hair looks good on fit people. Of course for people look good in any hair BUT I think big hair makes people who are fit stand out more body wise. I don't know if that makes any sense.

For example, I have giant hair. It’s not the same texture like black people afro but I still call it Afro or poofy? And the times I’m more fit I think I look more cute with giant hair than when I tame it. And when I gain more weight I feel I have to tame my hair more because then I just look extra bigger body wise 😂 so my conclusion is if you have big hair try to always stay in shape and people will adore your hair and if you’re get out of shape then the hair just makes you look more fat 😩

I also get a lot of stares and comments when my hair is big. And people often touch it, some without asking. Including black people they touch my hair too!! Maybe they can’t believe my hair lol

I used to dislike my hair but I learned to like it or I have no other choice 😂 and it’s not that I dislike it now I think I really just dislike that I have to put a lot of time and effort to tame it.

It’s when I see girls with straight hair that I think how easy their must be 😂

That she has an Afro, wandering around Cambridge you see loads of hairstyles and types, is it black hair Afro, blonde, ginger, red etc. the only time I’ve had a double take was a girl with a really large one and she was a little short, it seemed a little out of proportions.

I think it looks beautiful. I don’t know why you added “I want to touch it” as a choice in the poll, why would anyone want to touch someone else’s hair? I mean if a guy is not romantically involved with a woman, then he has no business touching her anywhere! (least of all her hair!)

Afro's are a representation to the culture. I like them and even though I wear locs more often than a fro I think they're both really incredible for black people.
