Do you prefer a male or female to sing the songs you listen to?

I've decided that I like the songs that a guy is singing better. I've been listening to a lot of my favorite songs on my YouTube playlist and each song that sings with a masculine sound somehow goes deeper inside of me than a female voice.
I guess it's just like I would rather have a man giving me the weather on the TV News.
And same thing when a female is the narrator at a sporting event like a baseball game. Just sounds better coming from a guy.

When it comes to music, I like both male and female.

Depending on the song and the vocals, female voices can be great.

There are a lot of female singers and girl bands that I like - Billie Holiday, Patsy Cline, Aretha, The Supremes, Joni Mitchell, Grace Slick, Janis Joplin, Ann Wilson (Heart), the Bangles, and so many more going all the way back go the 40s.

But there are lots of awesome male vocalists. Male vocals may cover a wider variety. Some are deep and some are high. They can be smooth or romantic or ballsy, or raspy or dynamic. I couldn't begin to list all the examples.

I understand why women like deep, resonant male voices. They can sort of pass through you. They can be easier to hear. And some women's voices can be annoying.

I do like a male vocalist with a raspy voice like Bob Segar (Seger?). My boyfriend, Patrick, was a pretty good dinger and he had a raspy voice kinda like Bob Segar. I used to tell him that's who he sounded like.

Also, since I was a little girl, like 6 years old, I have always loved the drums the best. But in my old age, I can really get into the rockin' electric guitars better.

@sage2021. I was a rock guitarist and vocalist by the time I was 17, so I love electric guitar.

But I like good arrangements, especially when they have dynamics. Guitar, bass, keyboards, drums, percussion, vocals, harmonies, ...
They are al necessary. What would good music be without bass and drums? Like when the beat kicks in, I want to jump up. :D Some bands know how to build a song.

I think I most favor songs by women or a combination of male and female (ABBA)

I have always liked to listen to Grace Slick, as she has a great voice (Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now)

@Ahh yes! Grace Slick from Jefferson Starship formerly named Jefferson Airplane.
I was fortunate to grow up in San Francisco during the hippie years.
They had free concerts in Golden Gate Park and I saw them play there when I was about 14 years old.
One pill makes you small,,, one pill makes you tall...
I had their vinyl albums back in the day.

@sage2021 So you grew up in San Francisco? I have been there many times and have visited Alcatraz on a few visits. Now with the mess they SEEM to be having there I hesitate to go back?

Yeah, it's not the same as it used to be. I think if I went there and saw how different it is in a bad way, 😞 it would make me very sad.
I was living there from 1965-1978. I lived in the Sunset District 2 blocks from the ocean. I could see the beautiful 🌇 sunsets from my bedroom window.
It was a great and very interesting place to grow up. Especially during the hippie era.
I really have no desire to go back there again - it's just not the same anymore.

I don't think I have an actual preference, but I can say that my play lists tend to have more male artists than female.

For me, it completely depends on the song in question.
Sometimes a singer who is the opposite gender of the person whose song has been made famous by is nice to hear at times, if done well.

I'd say that I'm equally a fan of male and female singers.

TV weather people?
The ladies are usually more pleasing to my eyes, but ehh, it doesn't make much difference to me.

I definitely prefer male stadium announcers.

I've always been a fan of Erin Andrews' on-field, after-game interviews.
She knows what she's doing and she's attractive.
What's not to like?

I like both. There are songs that were better sung by guys and some by women. Although I heard this the other day. It is a cover of an old James Taylor classic. I think this woman did an amazing job with it.

It's not a big choice for me. But sometimes, when the male version of the same song, primarily sung by a female singer, appears in the list, I like the male version more

It's probably 50-50. The song often determines if it's better sung by a male or female.

I watched a video the other day of of a women's choir singing Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody. It just wasn't the same.

I do not care. I prefer vocalists who can sing on key and have that "quality" to their voices. People like Paul Rodgers, Dan McCafferty, Ann Wilson, Marge Raymond and a slew of others.

I don't care about the gender of the singer if I like the music. Good songs are good songs. It just happens that the vast majority of good songs have male lead singers, lead guitarists and male songwriters.
