I vaguely remember one incident in elementary school when I was maybe in 3rd grade. It was lunch time and a bunch of us were out in the field playing in the rain. There was thunder and flashes of lightning but we were kids and didn't realize the danger.
A teacher called us in. But on our way, a bolt of lightning struck not far from where we had been. The static electricity made everyone's hair stand up and I felt tingly, but nobody got hurt. In retrospect, it was a close call.
The closest one was when there was a lightning storm right over our house one night around 3:00 am one year. A huge thunder clap shook our house. So I got out of bed to go look out the living room windows. There was lots of lightning with instant thunder claps.
I like thunder and lightning, but this storm had me kind of concerned. It was violent. I was afraid it would blow out our windows and wasn't sure what would happen it if lightning struck our house.
As I watched, a giant bolt of lightning struck the ground not 60 feet from our house. The thunder from it was deafening.
Yes once. I remember my mom and I were at the beach when I was little. It started to rain and the lifeguards told everyone to get out of the water because it started thundering.
we took shelter in a restaurant cause at this point it was pouring. Lightning struck on the street right outside the restaurant. My mom was terrified of lightning so I was too. It was scary for both of us lol
I also remember there being a pothole where the lighting struck. As a kid I thought it was caused by the lighting. It could have been but it also could have just been my childish imagination. I’m not sure
Myself and my co-worker were nearly struck at work. We were corralling people from our outside area during a storm since we had a lot of huge metal parts on the exhibits. This one mom refused to leave with her kids and so we eventually had to literally grab the kids by the hands and try to lead them out as the mom still took her sweet time. Right when we'd finally gotten her in the door, lightning struck. Heard the horrible sound, my vision went completely blank. All I saw was bright white all around me, and the next thing I knew, me and the co-worker were on the ground inside.
It was incredibly scary, and as a manager, I was terrified that he'd been hurt, but he actually helped me up and was just as concerned for me as I was for him. We were both fine. Next day, I went back outside and right in the concrete you could see a scorch mark and what looked like veins in the exact spot the lightning had nearly struck both of us. Extremely thankful to be alive.
Yes as I was turning in to the road I live it struck a tree and it went all the way down and made it look like a candy cane. Scared me as I was about 6;ft from itre-state//background_color_rgba (0, 0, 0, 0), font_color_rgb (77, 77, 77), justifyLeft

I just posted about it at another question and I really don't know where that lightning struck... I'm positive that it wasn't on me... but somewhere near, and not so near really
I still ended up blinded and deaf, and confused AF for almost a full minute, lol
When I was in elementary a lightning bolt struck the bus circle outside the lunch room. I didn't see it strike but I heard the thunder and there was a hole in the ground afterwards. I think I was in first or second grade at the time.
One hit a lamp post barely 20 metres from me. I had a fishing rod in my hand at the time and had been under that lamp only a few minutes earlier.
Yes I have it was on a baseball field we were all in the dugout because of the storm and it struck the middle of the infield close to the mound. It was very loud.
yeppers, this past summer our department keeps a crew out at a major outdoor concert facility and during 1 storm a bolt of lightning took out a light pole about 100 yards from where we were parked.
Yepp - on a small sailboat in the middle of night on a trip along the local coast.
For some reason the lightnings were not interested in my mast.
But I was :D
I've seen one burn down the neighbor's house before. And during the same storm it struck a pond which fried all the frogs in the water. Wild.
I was in the pool in the rain and it hit right next to the pool on the concrete it was pretty cool (but looking back with my mentality now it was pretty stupid) 😂re-state//background_color_rgba (0, 0, 0, 0), font_color_rgb (77, 77, 77), justifyLeft
Yeah. About 20' away. It hit a manhole cover and welded and warped it while remelting the asphalt in different elevation concentric rings. It was really cool tbh.
Yes, on several occasions, but I was inside a building each time.
Also holy crap thats a lot of lightning.
I hate lightning I grew up down south and storms all the time and seen it pretty close
