I've heard strange whispers and banging coming from the basement, echoing through the walls. The air feels unnervingly cold down there, and I can’t shake the feeling that something is watching me. Every part of me screams to run, but I hesitate. I spend the entire day away from the house, trying to avoid any confrontation. How should I deal with this, and what if it's something I can't explain?

Call pest control or the animal shelter and explain that you suspect that there is a rodent down in your basement and if they could come and have a look at it to ensure that you are safe.
It is not unusual to have rodents or even larger mammals trying to find a warm place to spend the season or the nights. Check all your air vents and windows that may lead to the basement (from the outside). Let the specialists install traps or even a video camera that you can provide to monitor on your computer from the safety of your living room.
I went before downstairs to check, but there was nothing there—no sign of any animal. The lights down there flicker on and off by themselves, as if something is toying with them.
At night, I hear whispers right outside my bedroom door. When I open it, everything goes silent, as if whatever it was knows I’m watching.
I don’t want to think about it, but the more it happens, the more I'm convinced that something dark and unnatural is lurking in my house.
You should go down the basement.
